I have yet to see an F-Type at Cars and Coffee Portland (Wilsonville).

LuvMyKitty and I have the same Model and are but a year apart, me with a black ext./cashmere int. '99 4.0 litre XK8. I am up on Quadra Island at the top of the Salish Sea and would love to know about any get togethers you may have in my area. Thanks for all the welcomes!

 

How come I didn't even know the list or map existed for the PNW members? Granted, there's not many down my way in Boise, Idaho. I've got an 04 XJ8 and an 06 XK8 and daily drive them both, so if you're out enough you'll see me bombing around the Treasure Valley.

Just as an extra, I do have a decent setup for Jaguar diagnostics (dedicated laptop, VCM, and power supply) that I would be more than happy to use to help anyone local with any troubles...it may save them an expensive trip to the dealer. I will admit it is new to me, but give me some time and I'll have it down.

You are correct though, that we have so few PNW members in your area, so Jag gatherings over there seem almost non-existent. Really a shame considering the amazing roads you have just north of you.

It would be great to see if any in your area would be interested in a simple cars and coffee gathering, just to meet up, and talk Jags and roads!

Yes there are some nice roads north...I lived up there til recently.

There is a British Car Club here with a whole mix of cars...I know there are at least a few Jags in the mix. I'm not a member and it does cost, I think about $20/year. I wouldn't go to enough of them to justify joining, as I typically get busy in the warmer months.

I did however go to the meet at the Chateau de Fleurs last summer in Eagle. It was a beautiful place and neat to see other British cars gather.

Thanx for all the work you do for the NW forum.
I've been having trouble with my 2 kitties. What I found out may help others so here goes.
04 Vandenplas (XJ8) 4.2L
1. multiple misfire codes: Culprit, bad gas. it works in other cars ok, however the 4.2 seems sensitive to the "oxygenated" fuel. It would seem certain batches have more alcohol than others. The cure may sound strange. Put 1-3 bottles of HEAT (I use red version) in tank. It is a different type of alcohol than the refinery uses. It combines with the water drawn by the refinery gas. and passes thru and burns. this has happened twice now. Try 1st to avoid changing all your plugs unnecessarily.
2. Bore wash. (The forum helped me with this) Engine won't start. The sound when trying to start is as if I was doing a compression test with no plugs in. I still don't understand why/how, but the oil that seals the rings gets washed off the walls and there's not enough compression. possible cause is when one starts the engine moves car and shuts off engine. <1 min engine run. FIX: remove plugs, (I did front 6. cyl 7-8 to hard to get out) Squrit engine oil in cylinders, Install plugs and give it a go. Its a little rough at first and makes smoke, but clears up and runs gr8.
2005 XK8 convertible:
1. Window wont automatically go back up after initial drop to clear the top when door shut.
Reset window controller: Press down on affected window switch and hold until you hear a click. Then press up and hold until you hear a click. That should do it. I do both windows just because.
2.Passenger low beam HID headlight wont come on:
I thought, "What a hassle and expense to change a head light (search headlamp in JITS). After re-reading in another place and looking more carefully I removed the access panel in the wheel well and there the rubber cap for access was.
that did not fix it.
Bad Ballast/igniter: Jaguar parts dept at a dealer had NO listing for the ballast. They did have a listing for the whole headlamp assembly (assy). The google search results had ballasts for my model/year from $80.00 to 199.00 all used. I took a chance on the $80.00 one (OEM Jaguar XK8 / XKR 2003-2005 HID/Xenon Ballast | eBay). It works fine. It is attached to the underside of the headlamp assy, so the assy needs to be removed.
This is to long, so if someone want to know the R & R info I used they can message me.

just joined the forum.I live close to the Canada/ US border.

 

Portland area people may be interested in a solid rumor.

The former and very old and established dealership Monte Shelton on Burnside that became Jaquar Portland will have a local competitor in a year or two.

Land Rover Portland is opening a combined/Jag large dealership in the Tigard area.

It will be nice to finally have two options.

Sad that so many good, family owned and trusted dealerships have been gobbled up by foreign corps and turned into cookie-cutter dealerships though.

 

As I understand it as explained directly from Neil Sheldon the Burnside location will be merged with Land Rover across the river while the new facility is built near Wilsonville/Tigard.

The old Burnside location is currently under planning commission review to become a new apartment complex.

There won't be two options for Jaguar. I think Neil will still be general manger at the new location.
