Default First Summer Jag Drive

Guys and gals, my summer is booking up fast and I'm sure yours is, too! I have July 11 open for a meetup and drive if we're looking for a day we can pop the tops and cruise. It might be a good day for a cruise around hood canal followed by a cookout in Kingston for those brave enough to venture down my driveway

Anybody interested in getting together July 11?

I also see time for a second summer drive in August, and a final Autumn cruise when we embark on our Fourth Annual Leavenworth Drive in September. 2015 is flying by!!!

Addendum: I see the Northwest Car & Drivers group is also setting up a drive for July 11. July 25 is a thought, but that's the All British Field Meet. If other days in July are better for people to drive then speak up and we'll find someone to lead it.

Hummm.
June has been a frantic nightmare so far, with every weekend full! Wow, and not a car event one amongst them. (28th is an Air Show in Olympia BTW)
I could easily do a Canal loop with a bunch of cool cats on July 11th in lieu of a Bellingham run with the NWC&D crew...

The 11th looks good for me. The weekend of July 17-19 I'm going to Victoria for the Jaguars on the Island show. Is anyone else going? Im leaving Friday morning. I'll probably be at the All British Field Meet on the 25th but I haven't committed to it yet.

Sounds cool!

i'm hosting a Drive to St Helens on July 18th for another club (non brand specific). Any Jags staying in the area are certainly welcome to join in!

Thanks Jim. We're going to want the forum banner for our 4th Annual Leavenworth Drive this September. It was in use last year so we missed out. I don't know who has it right now. If we get some numbers interested for this one I'll request it. I should have gotten it for our spring drive! I thought it was going to be a small turnout and it ended up being our largest yet!

Awesome XJD. Let's do this. I say three's a party I think I'd like to make this a shorter drive than the last one. That was quite a long day.

I saw your drive posted up for the 18th, Clever. Out of town guests will prevent me from participating, I'm afraid. I will try to make the ABFM, though.

An early morning drive on the 11th sounds great. Count me in! Being new here I am very interested to see the proposed route and how you get "there" from "here".

I'd also be interested in the suggested start / end points, and estimated distance for the drive.

Well, just thinking "out loud" here, we could meet at the Krispy Kreme in Tacoma (maybe around 8am), grab something to eat first, cut through Gig Harbor along 302 and meet up with 106 outside Belfair.

Following the road around the back-side of Hood Canal (with a couple of brief stops) and some back-roads around Quilcene, should put us in Kingston by noon. Grab lunch if you have time, hang out and break! Those that need to head back across the water can take the ferry to Edmonds and shave off some return time.

I think google puts that at about 2:45 actual drive time, and figuring a couple of brief stops I'm saying a safe estimate of 4 hours (8-12), plus any further hang-out time people choose afterwards.

Any thoughts? Another route? Somewhere else entirely?

One we have repeated a few times comes to mind.... Meet at Safeway (now Hagens?) in Gig Harbor.
16 to Purdy, 302 to belfair and loop the canal clockwise. Stops include Tuwaho State Park, and Hoodsport for groceries or snacks. Eateries in Quilicene... not sure the quality but a few seem popular (Towana Road house always has a bunch of cars, and I see they have a brewery now as well).
Center road to 104, and 104 to PT Gamble.

just thoughts

You did that before? How long did it take?

Honestly don't recall, and my memory may be playing tricks... I thought we did it 3 times last year. One was just Marko and I, another was the mixed group, eating in Quilcene, and one was the Jag crew winding up at your house at the end.
The whole route is pretty relaxing as rural housing and traffic hold you easily in check.

I thought if we originated in GigHarbor area, drove north and dispersed in Kingston, some people could conceivably be back home by noon to spend the Saturday with their families. Depending on whether they hung out for lunch or not and for how long.

How does 8:00 AM at the Gig Harbor Haggen (formerly Safeway) sound to everybody?

Half day route, with a South-end start would be great for me. Plus a sweep vehicle to catch up us slow pokes.

just using google maps, the drive is about 3 hour from Gig Harbor to Kingston.
Tawaho State park is a good photo op, but requires passes.... Last time we snuck in and out in about 20 minutes without issue, but you never know....
Hoodsport also has public restrooms and the little grocery store.
From Quilcene, we have 2 possible routes to the Hood Canal Bridge. One is my little favorite back woods road that takes about 40 minutes at a pretty good clip, and then there is the more direct and comfortable route straight up to 104 to the bridge which is about 20 minutes. Might be the one place to separate the lead feet from the relaxed drivers and just meet back up at the bridge?

Regardless, 3 hours saddle time, plus at least 4 stops before Kingston says you best plan on the best part of 4 hours and probably closer to 5. From the Bridge, Port Gamble, or Kingston... all will have to find their way home...

Just tossin thoughts

No need for a sweeper, this will be a casual run. We won't get crazy and classics should keep up easily without taxing their vehicles. but yes, normally we have a "last car" who is responsible for making sure we all get back together if some ...ahem, Vince... choose to exercise their car's capabilities.

Swimref helped me time it all out, so a big thanks to him. My goal is to limit the stops on the west side to a couple of brief bathroom breaks (15-20 minutes each at Hoodsport and Quilcene) and head on to the Kingston Filling Station for a nice lunch on their rooftop deck overlooking the marina. With some luck we can get there between 11:30 and 11:45.

People that need to get on with their day can feel free to do so, and people that want to hang out can linger as long as they like.

We'll have to be fairly strict about start and break times-meet at 8:00 at the Gig Harbor Haggen (formerly Safeway); leave no later than 8:15.

I'm excited!

Jay

I know I said I was in for this drive but I'm going to back out. It's a little too far south for me as I live in Snohomish. But I'll probably be up for the next one.

Have fun everyone!

No problem! So at this point we have confirmed:

1: MarcB
2. Clevername
3. Myself

Expressing interest:

4. Italia227
5. Swimref
6. 14carat

Any confirmation on these? Any others want to come out?

I was also just informed today that the Jag Club is holding a pot-luck at a member's house on Hartstene Island on July 11. I don't think that's much of a conflict, but just FYI.

I'm about 60/40, as I have some prep work to do before I head down to PDX for the Forest Grove Concours (following Sunday). What I'd likely do is run out to Hoodsport with you, and then head back.
