Default 2003 X-Type - Power Steering, major issue!

Hi folks,

I thought it best to post a reply to this thread rather than start a new one as it's a very similar issue!

I have a 2.0D SE Jaguar, 2003 on a 53 plate. I'm in the UK so it's a righty. I took it to the local (non-Jaguar) garage this morning- a trusted place I've used many times- to have the driveshafts replaced.

When I was driving home the PAS started to make a whirring sound, and then it became intermittently unresponsive... I pulled over and checked the PAS resevoir and it was virtually empty. I topped it up to near full, and carried on. Three or four miles up the road it started again. After checking again the resevoir was bone dry. I got down on the floor and PAS fluid was piddling out from close to the near side wheel. (the resevoir is on the off side). The journey takes me along country lanes so I topped up again to get home, and now the car is sitting outside the house, very sorry for itself, with an old pan under what's left of the leak.

So on a nine or so mile journey I had to top it up from empty twice, and it only just made it home then.

Can anyone shed some light on where the leak might be please? Or what the mechanic may have disturbed for this to happen?

It seems pretty catastrophic and I think the garage dudes have gone home now for the day as they're not picking up. Please don't be mean to me, I'm not a mechanic which is why I'm asking the question- and I had to get home. I live in the middle of the countryside so could not just abandon the car and walk to the nearest cafe.

I appreciate any help guys. Thank you.

I think you need to get the Garage that did the work to pick the car up and take a look at it on a ramp. It should be fairly evident where the leak is coming from. If you have a Mechanic friend take them with you and be present at the inspection so you don't get fobbed of.
