Default 2004 X-Type - Adding Bluetooth? Help

I just purchased a 2004 X-Type and am looking into whats available to add bluetooth to it. From what I have read, according to the VIN, the car has the pre-wiring available but I am not sure what that really means. When I press the phone button it states NO PHONE, so there is no module installed. My questions:

1) Is there an upgrade to use the system for bluetooth or is it for an older type of phone system?
2) Is the upgrade possible for an experienced DIY or is it necessary for the dealer to do it?
3) Where can I go online for any info on installation steps and parts needed?
4) I would like to keep to OEM but are there other options that use the OEM controls?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
~John

Hi John,

I retrofitted the OEM bluetooth to my 2005 model, that didn't even have the pre-wiring.

I've been through it with several people here on the forum, if you search my posts you will find it.

Cheers!

Just wondering, do you have your phone in the car with you when you push the button? I have the NAV unit and when I push the phone button while having my phone in the car the display shows Phone Connected. I'm not sure the system will see and connect to a bluetooth phone without first telling it to look for one.

But I could be wrong...

NO PHONE - This system does not have a phone fitted.

That means there is no phone module in the car. If there was a phone module fitted you would actually see the phone screen...

PAB - Nope, no phone module, which is what I am hoping to accomplish to add... but thanks!

And thank you Cambo. I will do some searching and read through your posts. I am sure I will have some questions to follow up with.
