I second the fact that if the backlight on the LCD display is bad, you will have what you see and no fuse replacement is going to fix that. The problem is internal to the radio. Even if the buttons were not lighting up (like when you take the headlight switch out of the OFF position), that is still most likely something internal to the radio.

Hi Thermo, the fuse box arrangement you gave doesn't match my 2003 X-type 2.5 handbook which stops at F38 while the compartment fuse stop at F56.
However what Jaysva gave matches what's on my 2003 X-type handbook and engine fuse box.
The problem is as of yesterday F20 was 5amp and F21 was 15amp which is for oxygen sensor heater B & A and this throws the CEL P0037 And P0058 on my code reader, but after changing it to what my handbook says which should be 30amp for each the P0058 clears but the P0037 remains saying sensor bank 1 sensor 2 circuit low or open.
Please can you throw more light on this as i think Jag has made a major blunder in this electrical section of models 2001-2009 X-type.

Mrqng78, looking, it would appear that you have an oddity from off of the Jaguar line or someone has gone through a lot of work to rebuild the car and they took your 2003 and repaired it using parts from a 2004+ car. So, unless you know the history of the car from the time it came off the assembly line, I would be thinking you have a repaired X-Type that was at one time involved in a fairly serious accident. To the best of my knowledge, Jaguar made a wiring change in early 2004 and was even selling 2004 models in late 2003. So, the odds of you getting a 2003 with the 2004 harness in it is highly suspicious to me. The only other possibility that I can think of is that the car had a major electrical gremlin in it and the dealerships answer to things was to switch the cars wiring harnesses out and in the process, they upgraded it to the 2004+ harnesses.
Just to recap, the X-Types have 2 versions of the harnesses out there. You have the early harnesses that cover from 2001.5 (when the X-Type just came out) until around March 2004. After March 2004, jaguar put in the second generation harnesses. You can spot the differences in the harnesses by looking at the fuse boxes as the earlier ones had the engine fuse box run from 1 to 38 and the passenger compartment fuse box ran from 39 to 99. The second generation had both fuse boxes starting at 1 and running up to either 38 or 56.
As with any technical manual, you can always find some oddity in them where things don't match up 100%. In your case, if you look at the second generation wiring diagrams, you can see where Fuses 20/21 have 2 different rated fuses that are supposed to be installed. If you look in the wiring diagrams themselves, both of them should be 30A fuses. But, if you look at the fuse box drawing, it says that F20 should be a 7.5A fuse and F21 a 15A fuse.
Another way that you can confirm this is to look for white tags on your wiring harnesses. See if the first part of the part number starts with "1X43" or "4X43". The 1X43 is the first generation part identifier, where the 4X43 is the designator for the second generation part. This may come in handy later when you are trying to find some electrical system specific parts.
As for your codes, You are correct in that P0037 indicates that you have a problem with the down stream O2 sensor for the Bank 1 side of the engine. This can only have but 2 things cause it. You either have a bad O2 sensor or you have a wiring problem between the sensor and the ECM. Based on where the wires run for this sensor, I would first start with doing a hand over hand of the wring between the plug (just inboard of the brake booster, by the purge solenoid valve) and the sensor itself. It is possible that the wiring got loose and it came in contact with the catalytic converter and now the wires are damaged, leading to a ground in the system. If that wiring looks good, then I would replace the downstream O2 sensor and see what you have at that point. The likelihood of having a wiring problem between the O2 sensor plug and the ECM is unlikely unless other work has been done to the car where the wiring harnesses have been moved around a lot.

Identifying by model year is often difficult with Jaguar because (in UK, but presumably world wide) a 'model year' is first released to the showrooms for sale in the Autumn/Fall of the previous year. So an owner thinks because he bought an X Type in late 2003 he has a 2003 model year, but actually it can be a 2004MY.
The VIN does identify the 'official' Model Year and a full description of all the digits is in JTIS.
For example, mine is: VIN SAJ A C 5 1 M ? 5 W E*****
SAJ means Jaguar
A means Market, restraint system - Rest of the world with twin air bags, side air bags and curtain airbags
C means Transmission and Steering code - Automatic and RHD
51 means Body code - 4-Door, 5 seat saloon (High spec)
M means Emission control system - Emission control system 2.5L
5 means a Check Digit - Of no interest or value! (Maybe an X or 0-9)
5 means Model Year - 2005
X means Assembly Plant and Model Line - Halewood 2.5L
E3**** means the Production Sequence Number
So in summary, Mrqng78's model year is given by the digit immediately before the X in his VIN. Hopefully, that will clear up just what wiring system and fuses he should have!
Just an afterthought; the Model Year in the VIN might conflict with the Build Date as shown on a plate in US cars! UK cars do not have that build date plate.

Hi Thermo, thanks for the info. I have checked my fuse box and tags which read 1x43 both on engine and passenger fuse box cover, so swapped the fuses back to status quo to F20 & F21 to 7.5 & 15 respectively. In my case the fuses for oxygen sensor B & A is F38 & F42 which are both 30amps. Engine fuse box runs from F1 to F42 with 4 unused inbetween. I then ran my OBD Code READER which gave me only codes P0037, checked all the sensor wiring which seemed fine but the heat shield on bank 1 is torn and loosely dangling, my guess is the damage happened when bank 1 sensor 2 lambda was changed in March 2016.
My conclusion is that the handbook in my Jag is for the second generation wiring which is the cause of the confusion with the present first generation wiring.
At Astromorg, thanks for the contribution, i checked my Vin no and it's got 3 preceeding the X which suggests mine is the first generation 2003 model in line with my fuse box wiring therefore my handbook is the wrong one.
Thanks for the contribution.

any way you might know which of those fuses is for the cooling fan?? I've been looking for a while even called the dealership and all they want is for me to come in so they can charge me to tell me which one it is as if I could drive across the desert with no cooling fan. I see the one that says fan speed but I'm basically looking for the one that would be the equivalent on the Fan No1 fuse in other cars

I have a few electrical guides on pdf too if it can help someone. They're for 2002, 2003 and 2004 models. PM me with a valid email address!
They've been of great use, along with this forum, to determine if it's possible to retrofit powerfolding mirrors instead of regular electric mirrors. (I have the parts but I didn't brought them to the mechanic, though).

Power to the Cooling Fan Module is from F40 - 80A : located in LOWER fuse box - engine compartment
