Default AC problems

here's what it does. When I sit still, the ac blows outside temperature air (and I'm on the Gulf Coast... it's HOT...)

when the car is in motion, the ac cools down. Both radiator fans are blowing

in the past, i have replaced all coolant lines and the compressor/drier. When they replaced one of the coolant lines a few months ago, they said a fuse was blown.

So... What does this sound like to y'all?

I had this exact problem with my 2004 Dodge Ram truck. I had a bad compressor fan. Replaced the fan and problem went away.

If you place the car in neutral when stopped and rev the engine to 1000-1500 RPM, the A/C should blow cool and when you let it return to idle it will blow outside temp again.

You can confirm by taking to any A/C shop - they can do a quick check on it.

Hope this helps...

It could be the valve in this TSB.

The blend door could be stuck open.

took a look at the car this passed weekend (things move slowly around here!)

We replaced the radiator fan assembly- the lower fan was almost dead, the upper fan made a huge racket as it spun. Even with that swap done, there was no change in the way the a/c works.

So.. .the next thing for me to look at is the blend door. The next time I have a few hours with no demands on me, I'm going to remove the cowl panel and check door operation (I think it will be fine)

my mechanic probably has a little 'splaining to do, since the has replaced almost all of the engine compartment components (for different reasons and at different times), yet the a/c only works well when the car is on the move...

I had the same problem
Stopped in traffic warm air but nice cold air when moving.
turned out to be the TSB valve as Norri said.
Very easy to do and a lot cheeper than buying a compressor.
been fine now for 2 years.

also wouldn't hurt to clean the condensor.

is that valve spring readily available, or will the dealership try to sell me a new compressor?

My compressor is a little more than a year old, I bet they didn't check that spring when they remanufactured it.

Take a Look at the back of the compressor see if you have the plate with the 2 10mm bolts.
The new compressors have this blanked off no valve or spring.

You will not need a new spring (if you have the valve) you use the same spring.

print off the PDF that and take it to any shop that does ac work.

when I showed my a/c guy that TSB, he looked at me like I had two heads.

His questions are, how and why does it work...

Tell him you don't know and just to get on with it.

It's a Jaguar recommended fix that is simple to do it if it works you save several hundred $$s if not it's no big loss.

that's what I said... lol

we're doing it as soon as a replacement O-ring comes in. Apparently, it's a special order item.

I hope he was sufficiently humble!
