Default Another one bites the dust....

After 10 long great years, the X is finally laid to rest. Someone ran a stop sign and to avoid hitting them I swerved and ended up in a river. Dropped 25 feet in to a foot of water (draught in CA). Was lucky to walk out of the car with a few sprains and bruises. Unfortunately the X didnt come out so well. With the impact, the front part of the frame broke and a lot of other things broke too. Ended up scrapping the car as only had liability insurance. Both the steering and left knee airbags deployed saving me from severe injury. Pretty sure had it been another car I may not have come out without any broken parts. Just wanted to share and remind to be aware of other drivers who may not be paying attention.

This has been a great forum. Think I was one of the first few to join. From where it started to where it is now is a great feat. Will still stop by from time to time. Big thanks to all the members on here for all the help and stories shared.

Hi there - so very sorry to hear that - but it does sound like your X-Type did what she is designed to do - look after you to the best of her ability! I lose track of the amount of times I have barely missed an accident almost caused by another driver just unaware of light changes or traffic situations. Once I even had a road rage driver out of his car doing his nut after I sounded my horn for him almost causing a 2 car and 1 lorry pileup - sigh.
Please take care, and keep in touch - and maybe consider another Jag?

04X, Sorry to hear about the jag, I'm glad to hear that she kept you safe and that you are not seriously injured. Good luck with the next vehicle and may it keep you just as safe!

Thanks for all the kind words. The car that ran the stop sign didn't stop, and as I didn't hit him, the police said cant place blame on the other car even if he had stopped.

I unfortunately will not be getting another Jag. I had already placed an order for a BMW m235i before the accident, and am still waiting for the car to be delivered. Was planning on keeping the X as my second car as I didn't want to let it go. Im pretty sure I will be getting another jag in the future. The F-Type Coupe has been calling out to me. Just going to have to wait until some used ones come on the market for cheap, or I somehow figure out how to make some more $$$

Terrible news about your X. Great news that you are going to be okay. Don't have to leave the Forum. I didn't. As a long time member you'll probably have some good insight to share.

Sorry for your loss. As for what the police said -- you cannot take their word for it because they are enforcers of criminal law and know nothing about tort law. If you know who the driver is then you should make a claim against their insurance - if the will not settle, you simply file in court (possibly in small claims court depending on the year of your x-type) and the insurer will be forced to defend the case and settle. If someone runs a stop sign and forces you to either act to save yourself or choose between hitting them and ditching the car then they are at fault and civilly liable. Talk to a local attorney and they'll tell you the same.
