After reading more into the dvdr problems im having, does the disk have to be a dual layer dvdr to work or should a normal dvdr work?

For the loading.kwi file a regular dvd will work. The duel layer is for the whole Nav disc due to its size.

I can only assume then that although my dvd rom is spinning it can't be working as all the kwi links I've burned to disc none of them have brought the screen back to life.
Can't it just be unplugged to get the rest of the system working properly again?

As a temporary repair can the dvd module be just unplugged to allow the rest of the screen and functions to work?
Would that get the screen back on?

Hi Guys !! i need your help plz !i have jaguar stype r 2006 and i had problem with my GPS as it was not functioning So i went to the diagnostic tool so it lets me restore the system. I accidentally hit the S/W button on the screen menu and then it asked me for a S/W CD- I believe this is the system software to flash the memory. I do not have that CD and it would not go back so after I shut the car down and turn it back on the screen is blank out ( totally black) and all the functions in the panel are not working. Is there a way to get it back up?

unfortunately not.
the DVD unit has some of the hardware required to operate / communicate with the climate control.

I have a link on post 325 to my dropbox where the software you need is located.
Download the file Unzip/extract (I used 7zip to zip which is a free download from 7zip.org) it and burn at the slowest speed to a DVD and finalize.
I used Roxio creator LE10 to burn mine but read back through this post others have used freeware to burn there's
now eject your Nav dvd and insert the burnt disk.
remove the key from the ignition
now start the car and wait 15-20 mins
once the screen appears remove the Loading.KWI disk and reinsert your Nav disk
This will update your Nav to the latest firmware.

Default black screen

You must put the newest dvd map in the dvd unit, nothing else will help, switch on start 2 the key, then put the dvd disk and count to five then go in car and the key to position 0. Next turn back the key to 2 position ot start the car and wait... 5-10min. The screen must start, and remember do not touch anything just wait good luck

Default Try DVD- R or CD-R for only .KWI

All,
I've seen a few posts stating that only a DVD-R type media will work. I've used this, and a CD-R for only the Loading.kwi file to recover my nav unit.
(i.e. a DVD +R media or CD +R media may not work)

A number of you have posted that you burned to +R media, with no success.

Sorry I cant help you there I am a PC guy.
I wont be much help to you for the next week either as I am in Taiwan on Business.
Hopefully someone with a MAC could help you to burn the DVD. Make sure the file is unzipped before you start and its not in a folder. It has to be the actual file. When I get back i shall upload an unzipped version of the file to make life easier. In hindsight i shouldn't have named the zip file loading.kwi

If you are only burning the loading.kwi file, I had it work on just a CD-R.
However, there is a recovery loading.kwi and there are update loading.kwi files. For my 06 XJ8 they are both about 7kb in size.
The UPDATE loading.kwi will NOT load the basic firmware/software to recover a blank 50/51 nave screen. You MUST FIND THE RECOVERY loading.kwi file for your vehicle. I've been told that the recovery files are different for different makes and years and that Jag dealers only received 1 recovery disk per vehicle type. It should take 5-15 minutes max to recover. It can be done while driving.
And guys, please post what type of vehicle you're having trouble with, or update your profile with this. It helps us to help you!

I've tried the links as posted before but unfortunately to no avail.
My car is a x type 2001 3.0 auto.
Please if possible could a link that is unzipped be placed on here for a 50/51 error code to be repaired.
Many thanks

I tried to upload the file but was unable to so unfortunately the only way I can do it is zipped
this is direct from the 2012 DVD hope it works for you
I called it zipped_loading so to alleviate any confusion.
burn the file LOADING.KWI to a dvd and finalize (not the folder zipped_loading)
Good luck..

A big thankyou for all your help and advice on this problem.
I've ended up having to go to a specialist and they plugged it in and confirmed the module was broken.
Managed to get another module from a local breakers with 2004 disk all in fitted for only £85 and is now all working again.
But thankyou for all your time in helping, it's much appreciated.
