Bought one!
After much pondering have decided to replace the Scoobie (with 174,000 miles on it) with an X Type instead of another Scooby.
Mostly because it is the same colour as my XJR-s!
I've been on the XJS forum for a long time so will no doubt be doubling my posts from here on in.
I found it very difficult to find an X Type locally as they all seem to be located 'oop north' for some reason so when this one appeared 20 minutes away I shot down to have a look at it.
Very, very tidy with only a small scratch on the rear bumper which the dealer will sort.
Not as many bells and whistles as the Scooby (a 1999 Legacy Outback), no sunroofs or heated seats but not as many miles either!

Had the car for nearly a week now and really enjoying the 'modern' Jag experience although it doesn't smell like my usual Jags inside (leather, wood and damp) so I'll have to get the hide food out.
A couple of minor points:
When I get in the car there is a whirring noise from behind the dashboard somewhere; wassat then?
When I get above 65mph there is a low frequency, rythmic thrumming from (I think) the transmission somewhere. If I lift off it stops, back on the pedal and it resumes again.
Any ideas?

Steve, the whirring that you are hearing is a little fan by the steering wheel that is sucking in the cabin air to determine what the cabin temp is. Do not worry about it. If you want, you can try blowing some air through the little vent to the side of the steering wheel to try and dislodge some of the lint to hopefully quiet it down, but otherwise, it is what it is.
As for the low noise that you are hearing, are you sure it is not coming from under your seat? What you are describing sounds more like the centering bearing causing noise. If you get under the car, you will see a bearing in the middle of the rear drive shaft. Use a needle attachment on a grease gun and give that bearing a few shots (3-4) of grease evenly spaced around the bearing. See how your noise is then.

Not too bad so far, 6 whole days before it let me down, about par for the course for cars with me (better than the Audi though, that was back in the dealers 6 minutes after I left there and 3 of those minutes were looking for somewhere to turn around).
Wouldn't start, battery goosed.
Mind you the battery still has the Jaguar label on it so maybe it is the original; 10 years old?
Surprised to see it is only rated at 61 Ah which seems a bit feeble to me.
