Default Coolant Reservoir replacement

Hi folks,

I need a new coolant reservoir. It looks pretty straight-forward so I figure I'll replace it myself. But looks can be deceiving, so do you all know if there are any little gotchas to be aware of? I have a 2003 3.0.

As to where to get it, a quick google search turned up partstrain.com and jagbits.com. Anybody here have any experience with either of those shops? Any other online store recommendations? I will try local brick-and-mortar shops too.. basically I just need it ASAP. I'm pretty much off the road till I get it.

Stumptown, replacing the tank is pretty straight forward. No hangups I am aware of with the tank. As for places to buy it, one of the members here can get you a pretty good price on the tank. Send an e-mail to "ken@britishparts.com". he will be able to hook you up. Jagbits.com can get you the part too as I recall. You can also try http://www.jaguarparts.com, they are a dealership out of Cleveland, OH that I have used and they have good prices and will make sure you get the parts you need.

How hard was it to get the hose clips off (best tool). Ill be doing this repair tonight or tomorrow?

I replaced mine this summer. It was my first time. Pretty easy process. Just remember to let the car run for a a few min to let the engine heat up and the new antifreeze to cycle through. Air will get into the coolant hoses and needs to escape. I made the mistake of not doing this and went for a short drive around the block to admire a job well done and before you knew it the engine temp gauge was in the red. On my 04 coolant resevoir there was a black screw looking thing i opened SLOWELY AND CAREFULLY to let the HOT AIR out. I Had to add more antifreeze.

Just use a pair of pliers to get the hose clamp off. Squeeze the tabs and wiggle it.

Did you have to drain all the coolant from the system? Was hoping to drain/siphon out of reservoir and plug connecting hoses, pop the new one in, top off, start, watch guage, turn on heat to push thru any air in system, top off, then roll.....

No need to drain. It's a bit tricky removing the old tank without spilling too much, but it's possible (use plenty of rags).

Does anyone know when the coolant reservoir design was updated? On one of the threads floating around the past few days, Dennis had made reference to a "new" design with better reinforcement, but unforuntately he's no longer here to ask.

Anyone with a 2005 or newer X-Type experience coolant reservoir failure?

Hi guys, I'm replacing my reservoir. The mechanic suggested I do it myself instead of paying the dealer an additional $300 for labor. Everything started out ok, but I have a tiny sticky issue (don't laugh) I can't get the large hose off of the tank. The one in the left front toward the bottom of the tank. Any suggestions on unsticking a sticky hose?

I did my reservoir a couple months ago.
My thought is to take a large screwdriver and see if you can't wiggle it against the end of the hose while you pull on it to try to apply pressure between the hose and reservoir.

Mine came right off, but the old reservoir nipples broke off in the hoses. To get the pieces out I took a large screw and screwed it into the stuck piece in the hose and then grabbed it with a pair of pliers and pulled it out.

Total replacement time was about 10 minutes.
