Default Drivers side heated seat not working

I have a 04 X Type. The drivers side heated seat is not working. The switch won't light up when you press it to turn it on so assuming the switch is bad? The passenger side works just fine. I'm just wanting to see if its just the switch or if it could be something else.

I've heard that if the light goes out, all you need to do is replace a fuse. If the light is still on and you don't get heat, then you have bigger problems.

RIgsby, like disguay said, odds are, you just have a fuse that has failed. Replace the fuse and go from there (if you need fuse help, let me know when your car was built - just need month/year it was built and this is located on the build sticker in the driver's door jam). If the fuse blows again or you get the light but no heat, then you have another issue and we will need to take things from there.

Thanks for all the info. This is like the 5th issue I have had resolved on here I'm 3 days! You all know your stuff and are a great help!
Thermo it was built 04/04. I looking in the owners manual last night and couldn't find exactly what I was looking for. There was two fuses, one ford the heated seats module and one for just heated seats and auto rain sensing wipers. The rain sensing wipers work just fine so I don't think it's that's fuse. I just didn't see one for just the drivers side heated seat but now that I think of it, I only looked at the passenger compartment fuse box. I didn't have time to check the fuses last night so I will have to check them today. I'm just not sure what ones to check lol.

Rigsby94, I copied this from another member:
The only fuse that is dedicated to the LH seat heater is

F66, 30A, in the passenger glove box fuse panel.

Rigsby, here is a list of fuses that you will need to check.

For those with memory seats:
F9 in the passenger fuse box
F16 in the passenger fuse box
F7 in the passenger fuse box (what tells the seat module that the car is running)

For those without memory seats
F7 in the passenger fuse box (what tells the seat module that the car is running)
F8 in the passenger fuse box

So, based on what I am seeing, the most likely one for what you are seeing is the F7 fuse being your issue. If the others blow, they only take out the heater or something of the like. F7 controls the brains of what is going on and if F7 is good, should still light the light on the side of the seat unless the module itself has died.

If you want to get knee deep in this, let me know. You will just need a multimeter to do the next series of checks.

I checked all the fuses and they are all good. I think it's the module that's bad honestly. Could it possibly be a bad switch?

Rigsby, let me get home and look over the diagrams. I will see what I can figure out for you. But, odds are, to do any sort of troubleshooting, it will involve lifting the seat up so you can access the underside of the seat.

Rigsby, ok, we are going to do a little bit of playing. First, you will need to get to the back side of the heated seat. If you look under there, you should see 2 modules. One that controls the seat positioning (should be able to follow a cable bundle over to the seat controls and then another module with a single 12 pin connector attached to it (plug will only have 10 wires going to it). If you look, at pin 8, you should see a white wire. Now, with the key in the RUN position (verify that the passenger seat can be turned on, but then immediately turn it off), take a short piece of wire and go between Pin 8 and chassis ground or Pin 8 and Pin 1. HOpefully you will see the light turn on for the driver's seat. If it does, then you have a bad switch, you need a new switch. If it does not, then look at pins 12 and 5. You should see an orange-green wire at Pin 12 and a green-black wire on Pin 5. Measure each of these wires 1 at a time to chassis ground. You should see about 12.6 VDC (anything above 12.0 is good). If you don't have power to the orange-green wire, then you don't have the battery power to the seat. You have a bad wire between the fuse box and the seat, repair the wire. If you don't have power on the green-black wire, you have a bad wire between the seat and the fuse box. I know it is not the fuses because the fuses that power the driver's seat are the same ones that power the passenger seat.

If you can short Pin 8 (white wire) to ground and the seat does not power up, then that will pretty much confirm the module is toast and you need a new module.

If you need more help, let me know.

I had this very same issue on my 05 X-type where the driver's heater would not work and the driver mirror would not move. Took the car to the dealer who reseated the connector under the seat AND disconnected+reconnected the battery. That seemed have resolved my issue.
