Ecu/ecm number?-need an explanation
My pcm/ecu/ecm engine computer unit number is 7x43-10k975-db. I want to get a replacement ecm engine computer unit but i could not find another ecm with the same unit number. I found one that was close but no cigars. The ecm that i found carries this number, 4x43-10k975-db out of a 2005 jaguar. I bought a shifter off of a 2006 car and it has the same shifter as mine. The ecm on that 2006 car is 6x43-10k975-aa. What numbers on the ecm matter/work with mine? I THOUGHT EACH CAR COMES WITH IT'S OWN UNIQUE ECM NUMBER, BUT WHEN I WAS LOOKING THROUGH EBAY, THERE'S SEVERAL CARS WITH THE SAME ECM NUMBERS. Please let me know. Thanks in advance

NLXType, the 1X43 is referring to the first year of the X-Type. This code is normally used for all cars in the 01.5 to early 04 cars. The 4x43 refers to the later 04 cars and beyond. I can't say that I have ever seen something with a 6x43 numbering to it.
The number is the middle is what really matters as that is telling you the part number of the computer.
The db is the revision of software that was on the ECM when the car was made. So, as long as you keep the middle and end numbers the same, you should be golden.

Thank you. I found some on EBay with the exact part numbers. The "7" was a typo, it's a "4". I've typed it often enough to know it by heart, but my fingers are weary. On the other hand, you passed a test that was not intended! Sounds like you know the parts and cars.
Think I'll get away with using the JLR software and accepting the keys as is? The Dealer is absolutely out of the question here in Nfld, no way, never.
Thank you for your assistance. I'm so glad the forums are here.
Sincerely,
Joe
