Default Fuel return line, Help

Doe anyone know if my 2005 x-type 3.0l has a fuel return line. I see two lines going from near the gas filter towards the front of the vehicle, but I think one is for the charcoal filter and one for the fuel feed. Thank You

1arrow, yes, you car has a fuel return line. This is used to help bleed off any pressure that may be in excess of what the fuel rail needs. This is pretty standard on most modern day cars as I understand it. The new fuel pumps do not like running at shutoff flow pressures.

Hey Chris, that's not so! You been misinformed! Unlike some other cars, the X Type 2.0, 2.5 and 3.0 liter petrol versions don't have a fuel return line. Jaguar describe the system as follows

The electronic returnless fuel system utilized has the following advantages:
reduced fuel tank vapor.
requires less electrical power.
does not require a fuel return line.

The intelligence of this system is contained within the engine control module (ECM). The ECM determines the required fuel flow and communicates this information to the fuel pump controller. The fuel pump controller has the fuel pump driver functions fully integrated into the microprocessor. The ECM calculates the frequency and determines the current required by the fuel pump to maintain the correct fuel pressure at the fuel injectors. The fuel tank is of a saddle design which incorporates two sender units. The right-hand side houses the fuel pump module. The left-hand side houses the transfer pump module.

i'm confused then as according to my manual there is a return pipe.

Fuel pressure is constantly maintained by the furl pumps integral mechanical pressue reg which returns excess fuel to the tank via a T piece positioned after the fuel filter

Rodney, which manual are you using? JTIS - the Jaguar publication - is very clear in its pictures and descriptions for all model years of petrol engines that there is a single supply line leading to the fuel filter and the pressure is controlled electronically by the ECU modulating the power to the fuel pump. I changed the fuel filter on my X Type a couple of weeks ago and can confirm there is no T piece before or after it.

There are other pipes from the fuel tank associated with the evaporative emission control system

It was JTIS but my mistake there is a returns pipe on 2.0L not 2.5 or 3.0L

Will get my eyes tested
