Default Transmission Problem?

2002 X type 2.5L with 112 miles- US. I have an ABS light and DTC warning with codes C1236 and C1440. I have determined that the ABS reluctor ring is completely rusted on the left rear axil and have ordered a new one. My wife has been driving the car while waiting for the reluctor ring to arrive and several times while driving the RPM has jumped up before the trans makes a hard gear engagement. After she brought the car home I rechecked the codes and there was no gear fault code but still the two ABS codes(which I expected). I checked the electrical Schematic for the trans system and there are three speed sensor inputs to the trans-Turbine Speed Sensor, Intermediate Speed Sensor, and Output Speed Sensor. My question is could the lack of a speed sensor on the left rear axil cause the transmission to act erratically? Or do you have any suggestion as to the erratic behavior of the trans.
Thanks,
Howard

The gearbox wants the wheel speed info on the CAN bus so YES, the gearbox could get 'confused' without the input.
