Help, 2.0l diesel,no power, black smoke
Hi all,
Having owned the jag 2.0l sports diesel 06 reg, since December, its gone into limp mode twice.
Well last Monday, after reading up, I cleaned out the ERG valve and all seemed fine.
Then yesterday, I seem to have a total loss of power, as though the turbo isn't working and black soot from the exhaust. Really struggles to climb any hill and under light acceleration, it's very jerky and judders. I don't have any warning lights on including flashing glow plug light.
Typically, I'm due to drive to the airport on holiday on Thursday so hope to have it sorted quickly and have just booked a week in France, going by ferry in 3 weeks time. At the moment, I doubt if it could get me to the motorway, let alone Luton or Dover.
Anyway, what shall I do next?
Can I temporarily disconnect the ERG valve to try and eliminate it (or block it off with something) or do I need to be taking the turbo actuator box off and check for broken links or something. I can do Basic mechanics, but don't have access to any code readers.
Or am I best of taking it to a local or jaguar garage?
Hope someone can help.

i had a silmilar problem. took it to my local garage and they diagnosed it was the injectors, sent them all off to be reconditioned at £165.00 each then refitted nomore problem, glad i had it done it runs well and drives like a different car now. the fitter said
if i carried on driving it like that it could have burnt through the pistons.

Hi had exactly the same problem with my 2004 x type 2.0d ..solved it for about £ 4.00 by fitting a blanking plate ( from e bay ) on the ERG now runs better no smoke at all ..I had already spent in excess of £ 600.00 trying to get the car fixed... Fit the plate you will be pounds in and pleased with the results. ...

Hi,
The rubber boost pipe that joins to the egr valve can split.
open the bonnet and start the engine.
Get some one to rev the engine to get the turbo generating pressure and you should hear hissing around the boost pipe.
Also the jubilee clips can corrode on the intercooler allowing the boost pipe to come off.
This can be checked by looking down at the aircon pump and if the clip is corroded then the boost pipe will be very close to the aircon belt.
Hope this helps
