Default Key fob problem - help needed

I have 2003 x type. I only have one key for the car having lost the other. The key fob wasn't working for a while despite a battery change so I had simply been unlocking and locking the car manually.

Anyway I decided it was time to get it sorted and thinking that the fob was knackered I sent it for repair (New buttons etc). I received it back today with a note confirming the repair and that it had been tested and was giving a signal.

So I have tried to recode it to the car (the switching back and forth four times method which I've done before) but after the chime and then pressing a button nothing happens.

The repairer is adamant that it is giving off a signal and so now needs recoding by jaguar or an auto locksmith. Does that sound right or is there anything else I can do without spending more £?

Default This Works For me

Jim:

I've used this procedure (found on this forum long ago) a couple of times after changing batteries, and it always works for me.

1. Open driver's door.
2. Turn the ignition switch to the "auxiliary" position, then turn the ignition switch to the "ON" position and back to the "auxiliary" position four times. 2002 Jaguar X-Type V6-3.0L - Keyless Entry - Remote Transmitter Pro... Note: A chime from the Generic Electronic Module (GEM) will indicate programming status has been enabled.
3. Turn the ignition switch to "OFF" position.
4. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
5. To program the transmitter, press any key within 10 seconds. Note: If the remote transmitter has been accepted, the GEM will make a chime.
6. If any other remote transmitters are to be programmed, press any button once on each transmitter within 10 seconds. Note: A maximum of four remote transmitters can be programmed
7. Close driver door. Complete

Thanks. I have tried the method you suggest on a few occasions. Although I hear the audible chime when I press one of the buttons on the remote nothing happens. I'm guessing my key is broken despite the "repair". Unless anyone else has any other suggestions?
