Default Leaper Installation

I just got my replacement leaper from eBay in the mail. I thought it would have like a screw and be self-explanatory, etc. In actuality, it's quite weird, I don't see any screws...just some weird spring contraption and a red coating on the underside.

Has anyone installed a new one of these? It comes w/ the base. I need to take the old base off and put this new one on. Any help would be greatly appreciated, as I'm a complete moron. Thanks!

The plastic nut under the hood is 22mm i believe, remov that. The leaper will still be "glued" to the hood. You have to pry it off. Some come off real easy and some don't. Be careful not to dent/scratch your hood.

Awesome, thanks! I'll give it a shot tomorrow. I now realize this part screws off, and there's an adhesive under the red backing...thanks!

The adhesive on the existing base seems to be on there pretty good. I took a razor blade to the edges, and got it pretty far in there. It's still not giving, but I think it's only a matter of time before I can pry it loose. I'll just keep thinking of ways to pry it off.

And to think, this is probably going to happen again...

We'll make a sticky on how to remove the Jag Leaper, and we'll include buying 5 guitar pics and sticking them under there!

I think we need to invent some kind of electric leaper that when someone touches it, it shocks them. theach them a lesson. or to a less extreme, make the leaper like on the rolls royce phantom that has the hood ornament hide a way when you lock the car

Check ebay! It'll end up being free or you could even make money by selling the leaper!

I agree aquill! The leaper is the most distinguishable part that the Jaguar has! Without it, our cars could be a... a... a...boring looking sedan!

Yeah, when I was overseas I noticed all the Jaguars had badge ornaments instead of leapers. I'm a fan of the leaper, though.

I couldn't get the plastic nut screwed on all the way, but it seems tight. I don't have a tool that can reach in there and screw it. Ah well, it's on tight enough, plus it has the adhesive.

Sounds good busjag, I read also on here about how most (almost every) people way east don't have the leaper and wouldn't want it???? : ( To me I've always thought that the leaper was jags trademark! I've said it before and I'll say it again, no cars have them anymore and I kind of liked some hood ornaments....those words sound soooo tacky.....well stick with leaper!

I agree, I like the leaper...it's one of the unique attributes of the Jaguar. After all, if not for electrical issues and three-dimensional hood ornaments, how could you tell it was a Jaguar??

I could, of course, see someone who had a couple leapers stolen just giving up. But they are definitely nice.

There was a wire hanging down from my leaper...is that if you want to hook it to an alarm or something? I wasn't sure what it was for, but it looked electrical.

How about a different kind of theft deterrent - wire in a 110v converter, hook it to that! [sm=goodidea.gif]

A hood leaper is a must have accessory toa Jaguar .As for preventing them from stolen ,you can wrap it using some kind of material let's say if a malicious vagabond tries to rip it off the hood his ****ing hands get cut off by something like a razor blade

You guys have me crying from how hard I'm laughing. I'm sure a converter would be cool, but it would have to have a cut off switch to be able to open the hood, and I don't know how you can manage to do it without having some short circuit since the hood is basically another source for a ground!
