Default misfire on cylinder #1

Ok guys time to pick your brains.....

03 x type was running fine until a few days ago. Was making a right turn and the car started to misfire. I just changed all the gaskets ,plugs, and coils just about 6 months ago. I just checked the plugs and they look fine. I swapped coils but have not checked it on the reader yet. I will do that tomorrow when I get a chance. Anyone have any ideas what else it could be....I need to replace the valve cover gaskets as there was oil in the well but not in #1,#3,#5. It was in #2 and #4.#6 was clean

Thanks in advance,

The Dr!

Could be the injector has gone bad. Same thing happened to a another car of mine recently. There are a rather large number of causes of misfires - grounded wiring, bad coils, bad plugs, vacuum leaks, damaged gaskets, etc.

Is the check engine light on? If so, have you read the codes? If you have, then please list them as that'll give us something to go on.

I had the same random onset misfire a few months ago, turned out to be the coil on cylinder 1. I had that replaced along with all 6 plugs and it's been fine ever since.

Ok I should have given more. Injector works. Raw gas is smelled in cabin. Going to put it on the reader and see what comes up.

Dr Dome, I would pull the coil off and see if there is any oil in the well. Odds are, you are going to find some in there. After that, I would try swapping the coils for #1 and #3 cylinders. If the misfire moves, then that confirms a coil has gone bad (just because it is new, does not mean it can't fail). If the problem remains with #1 cylinder, then you are most likely looking at a bad fuel injector.

Ok #1 3 and 5 are in the back near the firewall. 2,4 and 6 are in the front. I am going to pull it apart and check for spark on the coil. There is oil in the front well and gaskets are ordered. I hope its not a wire issue.

Thanks all I will report back,

The Dr!

Ok update......

Coil pack did not fire...Replaced with #2 coil pack....Also did not fire. Opened up the wire loom and found the wire rubbing and shorting out. Re coiled the wire loom and she is up and running purring like the good little kitty she is.

Thanks for the help all.

Good to hear that you found the problem. Sometimes it is the simple things that can make things run awry.
