Oops, i did it again!! customize boot Plinth on a 2004 X-type

I didn't take a lot of pix but will upload what i have. I'm not sure if you can do this if you have a 2.5 since the ones i've seen around here have the trunk button on the back part and not underneath the boot plinth. But what i did was remove the chrome part (do this very carefully cause i broke all the screws that hold it to the frame).
I also bought a detail hand saw ( like a mini rotozip at harbor freight only cost me $10! ) i went ahead and drilled into the letters carefully and then grinded out the lined area.
After all the letters were done, i bought an LED white light strip ($39.99) and gorilla glued it to the back.
i tapped into the licence plate light wire ( the right side light ) so when i turn on my headlights, it lights up.

Going to look at this on my STR plinth later today, but seems it should work, other than the possible water intrusion going to have to figure out how to stop that as well...
Nice work, sharp looking and clean I love it!!

Did you make any kind of lens for the inside of each letter to protect the LED's? Despite them being weatherproof.
Cheers,
Jonesy.

Sorry I've been MIA but here is the link to the LED strip lights that i got ( i think it was these ) but they'll work just fine.
Also i did have to cut the strip in half because of the trunk button but i solder the with some extra wire i had from my amp install. As for the waterproofing of the wires, all i did was cover the wires with gorilla glue. the LED strip is completely waterproof. I did add some duct aluminum tape to shield the light from passing thru the back and showing thru the slim openings. (if that makes sense) I'll post up some pix tomorrow kinda explaining what i mean.

sorry i've been MIA, work's been crazy... anyways to answer about the side mirrors, i also bouht some LED strip lights (12V) but these were the 8 inch strip amber color. I took apart the assembly and this project did take 2 full days. I had to run the wires to the side marker lights and wire them together. the strip has 3M adhesive that works really well. I've had those lights on for a little over a year. I'll take pictures tomorrow to show how they look on the mount. one thing tho, i mostly had them put for night time use. you can see them during the day but the night effect is what makes it!
