Default Good god help!

Just bought a neglected 2002 X-Type. Where do I begin. I need to know where to get headlamp lens. (just the plastic piece). Washer sprayer located on the hood broke. And yes I will try to super glue it. My Pontiac never had so manay issues as this "Money Pit"

If those are your only issues with a neglected Jaguar get down on bended knee and thank your God...NOW!!

As far as the lense goes is it busted or scratched or faded? Good or bad news depending on your answers. if it's scratched or faded there are products that will buff it up good as new. If it's busted the whole headlight enclosure is 1 big assembly and it's gonna cost you a few bucks, maybe look into ebay or a wrecker to find a used one.

Honestly, once your kitty is up to speed it will stop being a money pit. Jaguars likie most imports are only as good as the maintenance record that comes along with the car. Frequent oil changes, I would suggest you get the oil flushed and changed right away, same goes for the rear differential and transfer case fluids.

Welcome aboard

It's not the Horse's fault, so could you please stop flogging him now?

An entire headlamp assembly can be had on evilebay for $150-200 (halogen version) if its broken - you local junker may be cheaper - or maybe not since they seem to be the ones selling half the carparts on that site. bumper disassembly or removal required to do the swap - about 12 bolts, 4 or so of which can be felt (but not seen) in the wheelwells. how-to guides explained locations pretty well.

Depending on the mileage and past care it may or may not continue being a money pit, but at least it is a money pit with class. If it gets to be too much, there's probably good deals on Pontiacs out there, maybe even an Aztek ot two. But I'ma guess you bought the X for a reason beyond "it was cheap" and if you fix whats broken and she's not too beat down, you may end up finding peace, salvation, and equilibrium in yer kitty...

It not a money pit yet.....busted headlight and a washer jet.....isnt a money pit at all.

If you do prevantative maintence you will come to enjoy it. two simple things isnt going to ruin the world mate. It could be worse...

You think you got problems? I left my lights on all weekend, actually ran the battery dead, you'd tink the POS Jaguar would know I'm stupid and shut off the lights automatically. What, next I'll put the car in reverse instead of drive and plow through my garage door. POS Jaguars I tell ya!

Default Good God Update

Thanks for all your input. We bought the car to get a friend out from under it. Had broken tranny, $4000.00. SES light came on.... $1800.00 later for new abs sensors and manifold gaskets. Just found out today needs new cat. converter and steering angle sensor. Again $1800.00. Oh and it didn't have a stereo in it either another $700.00. I sure hope I am almost done. But I will need new passenger light

You failed to mention all those intially lol. But you bought the car, to get a freind from under it? that was awfully nice but at the same time a mistake. You got a neglected car thats for sure.

Look the parts up on ebay, 1800 for a cat, is too much. I know they have precious metals, but you might be able to use a universal cat for it, which would be cheaper. Also the sensors can be picked up online for i think 50 bucks form juaguar parts.com. And the stero can be done for the same. You could even go aftermarket for cheaper, better sound too. Sounds like you built a firepit and emptied your wallet into it.

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you pay for it? Auto or manual? 2.5 or 3.0 liter?

Well now mama, that's a cat of a different color! The $200 headlamp is the cherry on top of $8300 in other weepairs - which is definitely heading into money-pit territory because you can buy a reasonably good shape X for less than $10k. In my bestest calculus, Repairs > Value of Vehicle = MoneyPit.

On the udder hand, having gone to the trouble to fix alot of major stuff already, you might be over the hump and not have too many other things go wrong on you.

You didn't mention how many miles it has on it...

Wholly crap batman. That is indeed a lot of repairs, you would seem a far nicer friend than I evidently am. I think you have good Karma coming your way. Sounds like your Jaguar belonged in a home for abused cats.

You are evidently a good friend to have, but IMHO you would have been better off just to give your pal the cash, take the car, and get shot of it, before going down the slippery slope.

Still, having rebuilt the car you should have a nice example to keep until they become classics.

Or, chin up, take the hit, and stop!
