Default problems with my cooling system jaguar x type 2002 model

Hi
I drive a 2 liter v6 right hand drive automatic X-Type.I recently took it in for its annual service to a jaguar dealer in johannesburg. after four hours i goti it back!the engine light was on so i asked and my consultant said it will switch off.the nextmorning after i decided to go back to have it checked out.The technician opened the bonnet and all my water pipes were swollen, the hose from the expansion tank, and the hoses from the heater box.He just said it must be age and they gave another quote of nearly 8 hundred dollars!

Is that coincidence that within the 24 hrs i took my car in that happened or is there some kind of negligence on the mechanics side?

Welcome to the forum leguuan,

I've moved your question from General Tech Help to X-Type forum. Members here with the same model will be able to help.

leguuan, some more information is needed about this problem. I would first start with getting the codes read for your car to see what that will tell us. It could be something very simple (like the mechanic pulled off a vacuum line while the engine was running) to something that is detrimental to the car (the check engine light would be flashing if this was the case which I don't think it is as you don't mention it). Have the codes read at a place like your local auto parts store (most will do it for free near me) and post what you get there. Keep in mind that you may have more than 1 code. The only code I don't care about is if you get the P1111 code (ie, all systems are good to go).

As for your coolant hoses, this is a very loaded question. If they did say a coolant flush, then it is possible that the expanded hoses are a result of them (in short they left the fill line turned on and filled the coolant system beyond its design pressure). With the hoses being old, this can cause them to fail. The big trick will be proving that they did this (they would have to admit to it in short). You do not state the year of your car. But, considering that odds are it is in the 8 year old or so range, the hoses will naturally start to balloon some from all the use that they have seen. Slight ballooning is fine. What you want to fear is where the hoses have enlarged some, but you have a spot that is growing much more than elsewhere on the same hose. The bulge is where the hose is about to fail.

Is this something that you need to take care of immediately, no (unless you see the bulge, then that one hose at a minimum should be replaced). BUt, in the near future it will need to be done. Granted, most of the hoses can be done by yourself if you have minimal knowledge of turning wrenches. The big thing will be whether you want to get your hands dirty or not.
