RE: Radio Reception poor
Been driving my '04 X Type for about a week.
I have two issues with the radio:
Reception seems to be awfully poor, no matter what part of town or station.
Secondly, when listening to the AM band after about 10 minutes the reception drops to almost nothing.
CD player works fine.
Anyone else experience these problems?

RE: Radio Reception poor
i didn't have problems with radio reception at all; however, i've seen a few other x-type owners having issues with radio reception, so it might be part of a pattern. any dealers in your area?

You might need a new rear window.

Owned XJ8 and now a X Type plus a '92 Benz S class and a '86 SL. Trust me Aquill 1, Benz radios are only one step above their cup holders (Benz's don't have cup holders). .
GM used to put the antena in the front windshield. Don't know if they stopped because it didn't work or because they found they could make more money replacing power antenas after 50K miles.
I hope I don't need a new window. I just put in one of those decals of that little kid peeing on a BMW! LOL

RE: Radio Reception poor
Yeah lol!!! Do it black benz and make the picture you take of it your avatar! I'd like that!
Wish I could help you out more bud...I haven't had a problem and haven't heard too many reception problems since I've been on this site....have any other problems like drivetrain, windows, door locks or a/c I could help ya out!
You could either look into taking the radio away from the dash and check things out...perhaps replace the radio...you can find single din dash kits at www.nexxia.co.uk/

Why don't you swap it out man?
BTW if you wanted a good deal on a double din or single din with navi....pretty sure I could get a pioneer double din with navi and all of that for like 800-850....I'll check for ya if you wanted?

Being new does not matter.
If the antenna in the rear window was faulty when made, its going to give you bad reception from day one.
There is a reception module on the driver's side, behind the c-pillar trim cover. You could try that, but the problem is usually the rear
window.

RE: Radio Reception poor
If mine was like that and under warranty...I'd be seeing the local jag dealer...now I am officially surrounded by dealers as well! I have one in Novi, Troy and now just outside of Utica here in Michigan...here's a map ">

My 04 has almost 0 AM reception, I've pulled the head unit, cheack the ground, the antenna and everything else I could think of, but it still has no reception.

My '07 X-Type seems to get good reception until I hit hilly roads. That's when it starts to get staticky (is that a word?). Anyway, I haven't tried the AM band; maybe I should next time I take her out. I know the antenna is embedded in the rear glass on the sedan, but I think the wagon has a stalk antenna.

I just got my new to me car and I am shocked at how bad the reception is. I have had many cars with integrated antennas, but they were all better than this car. But they were all newer too. IS350, Honda Accord, and my Nissan Z all had great reception. Is there any way to boost the signal or improve reception?

My '04 gets pretty good reception on FM but AM is really poor. I lose ALL reception any time I turn on the rear window defroster though....it's more like interference.
