Thank you Steve, I have one on order. It is good to have a recommendation especially with the vast number of options around.

Thankyou for that - but yes the same as everyone else I felt pretty let down with the first device I ordered, as had to wait days with the engine management light on, wondering if it was something major, then only to spend 30-45 minutes battling to connect to it and then figure out why it wasn't talking to the engine management unit.

But a chat with Amazon, and a different supplier and it was such a different experience.. the usual 1234 pairing code worked quickly and I was able to connect, read, and clear the codes (with Torque) in less than 5 minutes!

Such a huge contrast between a poor incorrect product and the right one.

And knowing my X-Type had errors related to running lean confirmed nothing else major was wrong with my baby Jag, and it just needs the second bank of spark plugs changed has taken a lot of stress and worry off me :-)

I'm happy to help after seeing so many threads about code readers not working, and costs, suppliers.. your car having its engine management light on is always a worry - and where my local garage would charge £25 to read a code, with my car going in.. this was far cheaper, quicker, and with the same peace of mind.. just took a couple of weeks to get there lol

Hi Steve,
Yes it arrived Monday but was delivered to neighbour so I only got to play with it today.
Connected perfectly (once I pointed Torque to the correct device - it was still looking for the old adapter), and confirmed the only code I had was the P1111 for all checks done.
I didn't have a lot of chance to play with it, Torque seems to be able to do a lot of stuff including real-time data and graphing, so hopefully I will get a chance to play with it soon, thanks again for the recommendation which I heartily endorse.
FYI, if you haven't got it already there is a guide to the DTC's at JagRepair.com - Jaguar Repair Information Resource

Very glad to be of help - lol - mechanically I am the DIYer that cars hate :-) I break as much as I fix - hence my being very cautious with changing my back plugs and starter motor and looking for someone who knows more to give me a hand (thread in UK section) when I do them lol so very glad to be of any help that I can with things that I can actually do :-) and I will have a look at the DTCs link you list - thankyou for that...
Have a good Easter there!
