Default Strange Driver's side low-beam headlight issue

My Driver's side low-beam headlight was out, so last night I pulled the battery and quickly replaced it. As I did, I noticed that the existing bulb was not burned out.

After putting the new bulb in and replacing the battery, I restarted the car and turned the lights on - and the bulb worked...

...for about 20 seconds. Then there was a audible 'click' and about 1-2 seconds later the driver's side light went out.

So, is this some sort of relay issue? What would make the headlight go out that resetting the battery would (temporarily) fix?

Anyone?

Jeep2Jag, both of the low beams run on the same relay. So, if you have power to 1 headlight, then the other will have power. WIth that being said, there are separate fuses for each headlight. So, I would be checking those to make sure you have good connections. If you need to know the fuses, let me know what year car you have (if 2004, I need to know the month it was built which is listed in the driver's door).

When I got back into the housing, the bulb had just simply blown up. Replaced with (another) new bulb and it's working fine. It must have simply been a bad bulb (silverstar).

Thanks for the help Thermo.

Glad you solved your problem, I had the same issue today. There are also individual fuses for the left and right headlights. My right headlight fuse blew because part of the bulb wiring was stripped and it touched ground.
