What year Lincoln LS engines fit. I have a 2002 and I found a decent deal on a 2002 Lincoln LS will it work?

Default 03 X-type enigine removal

*****, Excellent thread & great pics!

I have a 3.0 that needs a hea gasket or rebuild not sure yet. Is it really possible to get it out without dropping from the bottom?

What is the secret? I sure would hate to disconnect brake & A/C lines!

Thanks, Rob

Did you use the same transmission that was originally on the x type 2.5?

shheeeezz 27K views and still going strong!! , I still see many interested in the swap.. yes i used the same trans(automatic), no fiddling with computers .

if you know the difference between a screwdriver and a openend this is very doable.. this was pretty easy. Basic tools a floor jack & a hoist ,take your time and your good to go.

Thumbs up

Great Job!!! I don't know if I'd have had the guts to do this one. It often seems supposedly identical parts between makes always tend to screw me....You are cool!!!!
Be cool.....Mike

Cool, but why? what are the advantages of a lincoln ls 3.0 over a X-Type 3.0? I'm pretty sure the X-Type V6 might even be a bit stronger, I mean if it was the 3.9 V8 I'd get it, but why the 3.0 from a ls?

Again x type 3.0 is stronger, just doesn't make sense to me

He never said he just did it for the power. He needed an engine and found a 3.0 liter with 28K miles for $100. That it was a bigger engine was a bonus. Makes perfect sense.

Yes, that was it, I believe. There were more Lincolns sold in the USA so used engines were more plentiful (and cheaper, to boot).

I did this because my 2.5 was shot, found a cheaper route with a 3.0, i really wasn't trying to build a race car, i just wanted my car back on the road again.

also i would think the jag/ls is the same power gains IMHO.. both engines is made by FORD. as you look at the pictures you will have to swap the intake's and such the block is identical . also keep in mind this was when ford and jag was one, so a jaguar x-type and the s-type in those years was a FORD, sad but O-well, also Lincoln LS is a rear wheel drive car engine wasn't sidewards like the xtype thats prob. where your thinking of power gains or lost.. Drop a rearwheel drive engine in a xtype where you have the engine and trans sidewards right up to the wheels..to me you'll get more zap out of that rearwheel drive engine, but thats just my thoughts

but anyways no arguments here, everyone has there own opinion's... this thread was made to help others ...

good luck guys!!

Default From The TOP..?

Willie, yours is the first reference I have found which said the X Type engine can be removed from the top. I've got an '03 with a toasted motor (ran outa coolant) and a replacement engine on the way. I've been dreading the swap because of the "entire power plant comes out the bottom" deal. Would like to establish comm with you to ask a few simple questions.

actually you are incorrect in this case. Since he used a 04 LS 3.0 he has just as much hp as an 04 x type 3.0. they are rated at the same, give or take a few HP depending on where you et your info. The S type 3.0 however is rated at about 10hp more than the X type and LS 3.0. no clue why. The 2000 to 2002 LS 3.0 are rated at about 10hp les than the 03 and up LS 3.0. honestly I bet the difference in HP between the LS, X and S 3.0 is ECU tuning, and maybe the RWD exhaust manifolds. Either way, as long as you stay away from the 02 and older LS 3.0 you wouldn't really noticed a difference in power once its in an x type.

I miss understood Zalami's comment earlier. I thought he wondered why go from a 3.0 to another 3.0. I pointed out that it was from a 2.5L to a 3.0. Ha ha. my bad.

In any case, everyone likes the idea of more horsesand as these cars age people will start rebuilding them bc it's a Jag. You could rebuild a Toyota if you like at the same expense and be driving an unremarkable car. I love Toyota cars and trucks, grew up on them, but you get the point.

When I'm ready to rebuild at around 200K (I have 130K now), I hope there are examples of upping the horse power significantly and strengthening the transfer case to match. I've heard talk of a WRX set up and so on. I'll drive a Jag til the wheels fall off and then rebuild it into a bionic X Type. Rawr!

I'm about 6k away from 200k ha ha. I'm still debating with myself over what i'm going to do as far as a new engine after 200k. I want to keep it original until then though, just to do it, but after that its fair game.

I figure around 200K, maybe further down the road, the head gasket will breach or some other catastrophic failure will occur. At that point I'd buy another car and make my X into a project car.

With all the work you've put into your custom suspension alone, I imagine you would want to rebuild and keep your X.

Zalami started a thread on this very subject.

https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...harged-134555/

It's had a lot of input from ppl here but not everyone was optimistic. You'd need to make deep mods like welding and cutting metal, different TC, custom brackets, and probably a different ECU and motor.

Lots of unknowns until someone takes it on and maybe a significant outlay of cash, but if it's a project car you could take your time, give yourself 9 months to a year.

The point is to have a monster Mustang/Charger/Camaro eating X Type, not to just buy another car that already has more power.

Oh I'll never get rid of mine, I have way too much into it already. I have thought about a turbo, obviously I'd have to use an aftermarket computer. I also have a few more, crazy, ideas. Only time will tell. Turbo would be the "easy" way though.

Can the coil on plug set for a Lincoln 3.0 Duratec V6 be used with an X Type Engine?

its a easy project my friends dont stress about it just do it..., think about this.... do you have a pic a parts/pick and pulls near you?? how often do you see Jaguars xtypes in there??NONE! for ford Lincoln's LS, the last time i was there i seen 6 in a row.. try and go to autozone and get parts for your Jag xtype, if they have them in stock your lucky.. but then say that same part needed for your Lincoln LS , i bet they have that part in stock and its cheaper.... go figure ! but thats life..... so anyway for that question above asking about the Jag engine coming out from the top, yes sir its done and it was easy to do.. but anyway have fun with the swaps!!!

and yes to clear things up ,my car was a 2.5 originally.
