TO BUY OR NOT? Salavge due to theft - gone a month, paid out, then found. REPORTS
#2
First off, the guy change the price from $7700 to $7995 and will probable sell at $7700. The second thing is it was listed as 2004, I looked up the VIN and paid for a few reports, it's a 2003, but clean, clean, clean and then some.
Beautiful Car.
It does have a salvage title due to THEFT, it was missing month, they paid out and now it has that title. It has 85K and have seen Jags at 140-163K miles.
He said for 3 months he would fix anything that goes wrong for free.
For the other 9, he will supply the parts for free and charge minimal labor (cost), he said for 2003, what ever engine problem it had (some air flow problem, less than $70 in parts, he would put in writing he would fix for 3 years, I just want something reliable, that gets decent MPG (we get 13 now on our Jeep Grand Cherokee), nightmare, so it has to be better than that, but it requires (JAGUAR), premium gas.
Wondering what you would do.He has a lot of Jag's so imagine that's why he has no problem with parts. He said mechanically, it's cheap to fix (FORD), but its the BODY PARTS THAT ARE SO EXPENSIVE.
So, what would you do???
Really looks nice.
Here the report.

I would never buy a salvage title car.... In this day and age with car fax being so easy to use to look up a car's entire history good luck ever trying to resell the car. Most dealers won't even take it as a trade in, and if they do it will be for a couple grand at most. Unless you can see yourself keeping the car forever and ever, I would consider the future and it's resale value.
Besides, the price isn't even all that great. You can probably find non-salvaged X Types in SoCal for around the same money.

You can have a letter from Jesus saying your car is perfect, but if any negative indicators show up on carfax it automatically cuts in half ANY offer a dealer would give to you if you tried to trade it in. You can have a clean, non-salvage title and the same would still apply even if carfax shows a fender bender on the record.

i know the key lockset is fairly advanced for the jag, but security wise it seems like a basic system. im sure it can just be hotwired by someone who knows what they are doing.
thiefs are somehow managing to start newer cadillacs that have immobilizers, transponder keys, plus a lockset and built in gps through onstar... if they can start those they car start anything.
now disabling onstar is as simple as pulling the fuse, ripping off the antenna so it doesnt have a strong signal or best is to know where the module is and just unplug it .
bottom line, someone wants a car bad enough they are getting it.
