Default Turbo not working Help needed.

Hello all,

I have an X Type 2.0d SE manual 2004 on a 53 plate.

The car runs as smooth as silk but the turbo doesnt seem to be working. Intermittently I get a DTC code P0243 or P0246. I clear the code and it runs again ok for a few miles then the code returns.

I have checked the actuator (vacuum type) and it is free to move but there is no vacuum on the tube. Traced the tube to a unit under the engine (dont know what this unit is called, maybe someone can tell me).

I have yet to check the wiring to this unit which seems to have two plugs and multiple air lines. Can this unit be taken off for inspection to make things easy or is it best to leave alone.

Any help would be appreciated.

John

It may prove helpful to post on the UK forum as most of the members here are from NA and unfamiliar with the 2.0d unit as it was not offered for sale in this market.

You may also want to obtain a copy of the Workshop Manual as a download from this site or available on the UK site to assist with component descriptions, locations and repair procedures.

it could be that your intercooler hose, the one from the EGR to the intercooler has torn this will give a loss of turbo boost and the car will feel lifeless, have a look at the front left side of the engine comparment near the front, you need to remove the dipstick and engine cover (plastic) you can then see the EGR valve, is this area covered in black gunk? if so you have probably got a split pipe, or it may have even blown off the EGR where it connects with a jubilee clip. What engine is yours and year, if its Euro 3 engine and the EGR has no connector on the end, you can remove the EGR and clean it as these get very dirty and restrict air flow, you can then clean the manifold as this gets coked up, then fit a blanking plate. If its the later Euro 4 you can really clean the EGR and a replacement is needed, you can also blank the EGR on this version but you need a blanking panel with a hole in it so you dont get a EML on.

Thanks Paul.

I have now found the fault. It was a broken wire in the loom. Now my turbo kicks ****..... I have also checked the EGR stuff and all seems well.

Thanks to all for the comments

nice one, if you start to feel the turbo not being as responsive check the egr they are prone to getting clogged, I blanked mine, the blanking plate is only a couple of quid, and its simply slides in after loosening a couple of bolts, 5 min job mate and the car is much more responsive. Have you joined the Jaguarforum.com that's the uk one and it will provide more answers to any questions as many more users with the 2.0D im on there as well same user name, Best to have as many points to refer to should something go wrong.

Thanks for the info Paul.

Will bear in mind for future failures which are bound to happen at some time.

Cheers
John
