Default Rear crank seal leak

Hi

It looks like I have an oil leak at the rear crank seal on my 2.5 2002.

I guess that means gearbox out to replace seal? Right?

What other parts should I change and/or maintain while doing that job?

Any good DIY write-ups on the job?

Any Do's or Don'ts?

Any other thoughts, comments or recommendations?

Thanks, ThomasX

On main page in "stickies" is a downloadable workshop manual for exact procedure.

I looked around, but couldn't seem to find it. Do you think could paste a link?

Thanks!

Whilst you are in there renew the clutch then you can forget about it.
You will probably have to change the flywheel as well which could be a dual mass one (mine is).
Change the oil in the transfer box if it as an AWD drive one.

You can buy rear main seal leak repair oil additive in a bottle. I am certainly not recommending it, just saying it's available.

If it was me, I'd be making absolutely sure that it isn't a sump gasket failure in that area first. Such failures seem more common to me than rear crankshaft seals. Still not an easy fix, but easier than taking the engine out IMO. Sorry if you've already checked that!
