2001 touch screen
Hi,
thanks for reading.....
Problem with my touch screen, phone button on left of screen doesn't appear to work?
I've tried to enter the secret menu holding "Phone and Menu" doesn't enter menu and also tried nav,up,nav,up,nav, audio, audio, audio. (tried both temp up and fan up)
Any ideas ???
Thanks

Welcome to the forums, Derby. Lots of friendly helpful people and a lot of good information here. One thing that is asked of new members is to stop by the new member area and introduce yourself. When you have a moment check that out.
As for your situation you do not say if you have had the car a long time and the phone button worked and all of a sudden it quit working or if the car is new to you and you hit the button and nothing happened? I am guessing it is the latter and that you do not have the phone module installed, which was an option or something that could be installed by the dealer. Not many of the cars came with it, although they all had the button.

Can't say that I can help you as I am not familiar with that arrangement that actually has a factory handset in the car. It sounds like the "button" you are talking about is on the touch screen display and not a mechanical button? If so, is that same area that is pushed for the phone also used for something else on another page? If it is, does that function work on another page? If it would work, then it is not the touch screen itself.
If that area on the touch screen look like it is kind of worn from a lot of use? Those units are resistive touch screens and there is a very fine layer of a metal on the inside of that film layer you press called Indium Tin Oxide. The ITO on the inside of the touch screen could be cracked from constant activation over the years or the kind of activation it has seen (Pressed on an angle with fingernail or keys or something else). What you could try is try pushing with more pressure than you typically would. What that will do if the ITO is cracked is allow more electrical contact area and less resistance, which would possibly allow that button to work. If you could get it to work that way then chances are the ITO on the touch screen is cracked and failing and you would have to replace it at some point. I sell touch screens for a living, but other than that I'm sorry, I can't be of much help. Maybe someone else will chime in.
