3.0 Coil Pack Rocker Cover Seals - Help needeed
Recently purchased my wife a beautiful 1 owner 2005 X Sport (black on black) 70K miles. Installed new autolite iridium plugs and found several rocker cover seals had deformed from heat. Anyone know what the part number for these and the removal/replacement procedure? There kinda important to keep water out of the spark plug channels.
(Will be doing the dreaded oil pan gasket on an upcoming weekend. Thanks to everyone for all the tips. BTW the trans fluid on ramps drain/fill with 14 seconds of idle between three 3-1/2 qt refills and drains worked wonderful. Think I got at least 9 quarts of the old fluid out judging by color during drains. Checked the overflow and only had to let about 1/2 cup out at 100degress before it was set. I also have added a new extra easy suggestion for getting almost all the xfer case fluid out in the thread dedicated to this subject.)

BlackJagX2005, go to your local auto parts store and ask them to order you a "Fel Pro VS 50615 R". That will be the valve cover gasket set you will need for your car. You can plan on spending about $70 for it. You can find it on E-bay for a bit less.
As for tips and tricks for doing it, nothing super special. You already know how to remove the intake since you did the plug change. The big thing you need to keep in mind is that when tightening down the valve cover gasket, you just need to compress the rubber gasket just a little bit. You don't need to take it tight and crush the valve cover tight against the block. This will more than likely cause more leaks than it is going to correct. The other thing that I would recommend you look into is getting your hands on a greenie (scouring pad). You want the surface that the gasket touches as clean as possible and free of rust. This pad is good as it is course enough to get through the old gasket and remove the rust, yet not course enough to remove any metal and cause low spots, leading to leaks.

Thanks
Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I may not have described these seals properly. They are not the rocker arm seals. They are hard plasticized circular rubber grommet type seals on top of the rocker cover at each coil/spark plug opening (six in total). The rubber base of the coil pack presses down and seals on these "grommets" helping to keep water out of the spark plug recessed channels. Anyway several of mine have deformed and hardened from heat so I wanted to replace them all.
