Air bags should not trigger a check engine light. Air bags use their own flah codes for troubleshooting. When you start the vehicle the air bag light will come on. If everything is OK the light goes out in a few seconds. If their is a problem the air bag symbol will flash. you have to count the number of flashes to determine the CODE fault. E.G. the light will flash twice then wait a few seconds and flash four times. That would be a code 24. It repeats the flashing a minimum of 3 times and then remains solid lit to indicate a problem.
