From another thread

There is no pan on our transmissions. What is referred to as a filter is internal, needing disassembly of the transmission, to change or clean, and only catches big chunks, which came out with the flush.

Any help?

mr.ssg178, like what Henry says, to change the filter, step one is to remove the transmission from the car. Step two is to split the tranny into its 2 halves to access the filter. I have a feeling this is a bit more involved than you were thinking it was going to be.

Thermo, there's what looks to me like a transmission pan mounted on side of the transmission near the radiator. It's fastened to tranny by approx 14-16 10mm machine screws (need to get a decent picture of it). I'm used to seeing the pan mounted horizontally on bottom of transmission. Know what this is?

The valve body is behind the pan on the front of the gearbox. This is the same gearbox (JATCO JF506E) used on the VWs, Mazdas, LRs and Jaguars.

The little fine mesh screen is built DEEP into the gearbox as Thermo and henry k stated.

I understand that the Jaguar approved method of ATF change is to drain the ATF out ( expect about a third of the total contents) refill, run through the gears to circulate the ATF, repeat the process once more and pay for the work/ATF.

When I change my ATF fluid I intend to find a company that has an automated unit to exchange all ( 98% ) of the fluid.
These operate in a " dialysis" way. When connected to the car, the cars ATF pump does all the work and pumps out the old dirty fluid which is automatically replaced.
No excessive pressure used and you can see the old contents change colour during the process.

I am not sure which brands of such devices are available in the USA.
Youtube has some demos of such equipment.
