Default Black smoke, loss of power

Hi I have x type sport premium, 2007, recently had a new turbo actuator and egr since then have had increasing black smoke from exhaust, visible on start up also. today I have had a loss of power couldn't get over 40 mph, no warning lights, I have noticed a sound possibly a hissing noise but difficult to explain- worse on acceleration with increased smoke. Can anyone advise as to likely problem, Thanks

Hi Panther. It sounds like you have a burst/blown off boost hose. The prime suspect will be the pipe from the intercooler to the egr valve, the hose will have a small split in it or the jubilee clip will have rusted through and the hose will have come off its spigot.

You will find the egr valve on the front left corner of the engine. (as you stand in front of the car looking at the engine)

The hose in question fits onto the bottom of the EGR valve and goes downwards towards the intercooler spigot, it is held in place with a jubilee clip at both ends.

This picture might help.

It's page 1216 of the workshop manual. The link to download a pdf is at the bottom of the "How To / Quick Links" page:

You're welcome, but Rapala deserves the credit - he diagnosed the disconnected hose. I simply provided the picture. Glad to help keep our X-Types rolling.
