Another excellent video..

Just so there is no missed steps..The video didn't harp on too much about leaks, but only eluded to that the system should be at zero pressure to start the evacuation. Which is cool and correct..but said very little about making sure that all your leaks were fixed before hand..as I said, he eluded to any leaks by watching the vacuum and seeing that it maintained 30"hg-vac for about an hour..

Now, I'm sure you asked yourself how can he release the refrigerant into the air while purging his hoses?, especially after he said not to..The EPA gives a slight bit of wiggle room of tolerance to allow what is called a 'deminimus' release for purging hoses and equipment..

Some facts about most modern refrigerants: They are; Odorless, colorless, non flammable and non toxic..They will however, displace oxygen and kill you when breathed in large quantities..so will di-hydrogen monoxide (aka water).

The olden day cars and most every home refrigerator and freezer had R-12, a CFC type refrigerant invented in the 1920's (Chloro-Floro-Carbon) and had an Ozone depletion potential of 1..This was the poster child of refrigerants as being the infamous Ozone killer and making the hole over the Antarctica larger..So...A bunch of world environmental nut jobs got together in Montreal Canada to all agree to ban the use and production of CFC refrigerants by a certain year (aka the Montreal Protocol of 1987)(Mexico did not join and still makes R-12)...

The industry geared up and re-tooled for an Ozone friendly refrigerant now known as R-134a an HFC type (Hydro-Floro-Carbon), This cost the consumer and the service industry millions and millions of dollars to convert over...and since the Chlorine atom was removed, this made R-134a virtually harmless to the Ozone layer in the stratosphere...BUT!..frigging hypocrite Al Gore with his five Mansions and a carbon footprint the size of Milwaukee...Convinced all the global warming nuts that R-134a has a carbon atom in the mix and therefore would contribute to the greenhouse gas effect of the world..so hence; Adding to Global Warming and making R-134a illegal to purposely vent off into the atmosphere ..

Notice I never said the word Freon..Because Dupont a corporate giant in the refrigeration industry gave Refrigerant that trade name and guess who was the biggest supporter of the Montreal Protocol and stood to profit hugely in the conversion process?..go figure, eh...

BTW..Since January/February of 2014, the Ozone hole has officially repaired itself and is back to normal again, in spite of Mexico.

I finally got my AC working for $100 by an honest shop. They replaced the high pressure pop valve, evacuated the system and charged it and it's been blowing cold all weekend. It was blowing at 45° F on the way to work when it was 102° F outside.

The first shop I took it to must have over charged the system causing the valve to pop and then charged me $140 for their troubles. In the end there does not seem to be a blockage, but there may be a slow leak in the pipe manifold that goes into the compressor. I may have to revisit this before summer's end, but it works good for now.

I'll report if anything changes, but for now, blowing 42° F at the vents with outside temp reporting at 113° F on the readout of the car. Last week before the fix I was driving home on the fwy and it was 116° out, and no AC. Freaking brutal.

I hate the summers here, but the rest of the year, the other 8 months are super nice out.

Truer words have not been spoken. I do happen to be flying to San Diego tomorrow and staying a week for vacation with my gf. Looking forward to temps in the low 70s.

Gotta get that Flagstaff thing worked out. I wonder if they have any engineering companies there Until I'm independently wealthy, gotta work.

My AC is still blowing cold as can be over a month since replacing the HP valve. I must have not had a leak at the pipe manifold that goes into the compressor like the first shop told me. They are the ones that over filled my system, maybe trying to create a leak. Well they popped the valve, a $25 part, but they quoted $800+ to fix my AC.

I always had a bad feeling about these guys. This **** is going on Yelp!
