Default A couple of questions regarding my new 2001 X-Type!

Hello,

I recently acquired my late grandfathers 2001 X-Type 2.5. It has only 71000km's on the clock and was imported to New Zealand from Japan in 2008 when it only has 62000km's. It has been garaged for it's entire life in NZ.

Since it's done <10000km in 8 years this leads to a few questions:

1. Apart from standard maintenance, is there anything I should look out for in these cars in particular which sitting may of caused special deterioration?

2. Are the sump plugs needing a lug nut key or anything stupid? I can't for the life of me get the sump plug out, including using WD40 and a load of angry torque.

3. Are Mondeo V6 oil filters compatible with these engines, or do I need the specific filter? The Jag part is almost twice the price

4. What kind of fuel economy should I expect? with 90% highway driving at 110kmh and a reasonable foot I get between 11-12l/100km. Is this about right for an automatic model?

I'm sure I'll be bringing up more questions as I get along. The car is absolutely wonderful to drive, it handles like a dream and has quite the get up and go for overtaking.

Here's a picture of it - it's in mint condition:

Welcome,

I am sorry for the loss of your grandfather. He will live on through your memories and you driving his car.

1. Sitting can dry out hoses (water and vacuum) The car is noted to have vacuum leeks. They are also funny about the battery voltage. Tires and rubber brake hoses should always be inspected for safety reasons.

2. Nothing special on the plug. May be an impact guy on lower air pressure??

3. Good question as I just paid for the 2x Jag filter price

4. I just got 28 miles (US) per gallon (US), doing 70 miles per hour

Car looks GREAT...You will love the new car....I know i do

Now I am surprised ... because oil filter for aj-v6 engine (MANN W719/36) costs $7 here in Poland (and cheaper polish brand Filtron OP526/1 for $4) O_o
Looking at cross reference for these parts a lot of different filters from different manufacturers shoud fit.
I'm using MANN W719/36 currently.

(clicking on any part number will probably reveal more...)

I am running on LPG fuel usually in the city, and with manual - don't know what your petrol economy should be, but with these speeds 11l/100km seems reasonable.

Very nice jag, I've got the same year and colour, but 3.0 manual.
Surely not in such perfect condition, though (but not bad either)

I only use WIX oil filters. Very well rated. I paid $12 UDS for the Jag part number and the Ford number was only $7 USD.

The Ford motor plant, where this motor is made, is only 25 miles away....I should get free filters Motors too!!!

Mine has this because of the nut

K&N HP-2009 Oil Filter, Oil Filters

Would consider brake fluid

Transfer case fluid and rear diff fluid level check

Coolant if the hoses look up to holding new coolant

If you have a roadworthy test in New Zealand that does not cost too much, that will show most of what does or does not need replacing

Good luck with the car

For sump plug, if you can not loosen it( it happen to me before) because laying under car doesn't give you much leverage to turn, you might need a long breaker bar or even put a longer piece of pipe, you lay under car hold up the wrench, have your friend from outside turn the long breaker bar and pipe, if that don't work take it to the garage ask them to loosen it out for you. for any filters on the car just buy any filters that fit from the auto parts store, don't have to be OM filters.

Watch the brakes too. For signs of hanging (getting stuck)

Since I've retired and have been driving a lot less. I've had 2 cars hang a caliper. They just need to be taken apart and cleaned up and lubricated so everything pivots and slides as it should.

There should be a hood ornament on it, why is it not there? Put it back on and you should get a nice increase in fuel mileage, it is very important in the aerodynamic design of this model.
Nice looking for sure, hope it is trouble free. I got mine from a police auction, drug seizure. It sat for over 3 years in impound, needed only a battery to drive. I did eventually replace the intake gaskets and IMT o-rings but they never were an issue, just a routine thing. So IMO you should be fine.
