Default 04 jaguar x type trunk issue

Hey guys, I am new to this forum. I posted in the new member area just a minute ago. Now i bought a 04 x type and I seem to be having a problem with my trunk. I can here the trunk release work when i press the button by the license plate an on the key fob, but it wont go up on its own, I have to physically pull it up. now do you think those gas supports are bad or can it be something else? looking forward to hearing from you guys. thanks.

The trunk doesn't open up all the way on its own. It will pop open a couple inches. It does not go all the way up.

that's the thing, it doesn't even go up a couple of inches. that's the problem. I saw a youtube video and it went all the way up when they used the key fob.

If you hit the fob or the button and you can then access the trunk by pulling up on it, then it is operating normal. There are a couple mechanical "poppers" that releases it, but that is all. Maybe those no longer are working properly.

The trunk lid on the X-Type does *not* rise on its own. It does pop free of the latch, however, aided by a small spring-loaded buffer on each hinge. If your trunk lid does not move free of the latch, the buffers may need replacing. On the early cars these buffers tended to crack and become displaced. Jaguar produced a revised version of the buffer to eliminate this issue. If your car is an early 04 it might still have the first version (I am not sure of the revision date).
I cannot explain what you saw in the video but I can assure you that the lid was not designed to rise to a fully open position.

it was one of those reviews of the car, but i will have to take a look at those buffers. maybe replacing those should help. i just need to to become free of the latch. I can hear the latch cycle but it doesn't pop free unless i pull on it. Thanks for the info.

It doesn't rise above the lip at all; the spring-loaded critters are only there to raise the boot side of the latch from the chassis side of the latch, so that you can lift it manually.

I had this issue with mine. I replaced the "poppers", but that didn't always completely release the lid. I adjusted the lid rubber stops out a bit and it worked much better. When I lifted the lid, I had to lift it all the way up and it would stay, but I thought that was not enough support. Replaced the struts and now when I lift up on the lid it will raise up on its own.
