Default Gearbox fault 2003 x type

I have encountered a gearbox fault 3 times now. Each time it puts me in limp home mode and each time it was raining. I have read that I need to seal my TCM or ECM. I am not really able to tell which one is the correct one from what I have read and have read it is on the drivers side and also that it is on the passengers side. Can someone please help me before it rains again?

I recently viewed your video on the gear box fault. Pulled mine out and check both modules. No visible signs of water damage. The units really were clean. Before I put them back in should I do anything to test ? I plan on waterproofing.

First of all, that is not my video - I just saw it previously and thought it would give some insight the the OP. I really have had no problems with my transmission so I can't be of much help. You should try pulling any error codes for some kind of indication of the error source, but some readers can not read all errors. Still worth a try.

From the stickys at the top of this forum Workshop Manual in PDF. (thanks to LCGI) is a link to the manual for the X-Type which may be of some help.

It may be a good idea to start a new thread with your specific problem and more info about your car and how this error came about. Also go to the 'User CP' at the top of this forum and add your car details in your signature to help members know easily what we're talking about.

Check the connectors to the TCM, ECM, and ABS modules. If you have a ABS code coming up, the module is probably fried.

Check and clean your ground connections, especially at the battery terminal.

If you have the TCM removed, make sure you check for corrosion on the circuit board and connectors.

I will assume the module is fried although I do not see any visible signs of brown spots. Both the TCM and ECM are in great condition with no evidence of moisture or moisture damage as suggested in the video.
