Default Glow plug warning to dead engine on motorways - Advice?

Hi All! A few times over the past few weeks, when I've gone to accelerate on the motorway whilst going between 60 and 70mph the engine has stuttered, glow plug warning light starts flashing then it seems to bypass limp mode to completely idle and unresponsive to any throttle input.

The cars a 2007 2.0D and has done 110,000. The EGR valve and Intercooler hose were replaced around 8,000 miles ago. There are no error codes when looking at the diagnostics but it DashCmd does say that it can't read from the EGR valve?

The fuel filters were also replaced last service (around 11 months ago).

My gut feeling is that it's an EGR valve issue again as the car is very smokey and sometimes takes a couple of attempts to start when the engine is cold. I've bought a plate to blank off the valve but worried this will just result in the engine management light complaining again.

It's been a good car to me, if there's any advice anyone has as to where to start looking then that would be great. I fear taking it to a garage would result in a lot of money spent just trying to diagnose the problem and probably end up being more than the cars worth!

Edit: When the car stopped working, there was no hard shoulder or anywhere to go so had to just turn the engine off and on again, after that it ran fine again. It died to the airport and then again on the way home from the airport and won't drive it again till I take it for it's MOT and Service which will be after I've hopefully sorted this issue.

I have the same car with similar mileage and the same problem. I have had the fuel filter replaced and the fuel system cleaned fault is still there. I have been advised that the fault lies with the fuel pump which is expensive would welcome any further advice.

I've been told that I need 4 new Fuel Injectors and according to the people trying to sell me fuel injectors it's a "known issue" with these cars that the Fuel Pump is probably on it's way out too and the whole system needs replacing. With some regret I've put mine on eBay now as it just passed it's MOT with only one advisory (worn tire) so hope someone else with more time / skill than me can do the work to it
