has anyone used Amsoil in X type Transmission and gearcase
I just hit 50,000 on my 2007 jaguar x type 3.0 automatic
I have heard the stories about these cars having issues with thermal breakdown of the transmission fluid so I was thinking of putting amsoil in it.
From what I have read this oil has a pretty high tolerance to heat and dissipates heat well. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
Amsoil's website suggests this for the transmission
-Signature Series Multi-Vehicle Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid
and for the transfer case they recommend
-Severe GearŽ 75W-140 Synthetic Extreme Pressure (EP) Gear Lube
I have ran amsoil in drag cars before and it did well but the x type is no drag car.

I use it and it's been truly a superb oil. It killed off a lazy shift from second to third after the first drain fill. I was NOT expecting such quick and complete results.
Also, for peace of mind, it states Idemitsu K17 compliance right on the bottle.
I also used Amsoil Severe Gear in the transfer case and rear differential.
It's excellent stuff.
That said, I use Mobile 1 Extended Performance for engine oil because I need that to be easily accessible at any time.

Thanks for the reply. Its funny that you mention the lazy 2nd to 3rd shift. That is exactly what had me thinking about this topic. Every time I find one of these cars on craigslist it is always the same thing tranny shot. I'm thinking the amsoil will lengthen its life.
Just to add in case you don't already know..make sure you purge all the OLD fluid via the cooler lines...as the torque converter is where the bulk of it is.

I have two 2005 x-types, both 2005 3.0 with auto trans.
I have the Amsoil extreme gear oil in the transfer case and differential of one and Royal Purple in the other. Both have quietened the driveline noise and I have had no issues with either.
I used Castrol Import Multi-car transmission fluid in both and it has improved the shifting in both cars, much smoother, though still not perfect. Several other folks on this forum have had good luck with this product.
I have done 12-15k miles in both cars since these fluid changes with no issues.
I used to use M1 engine oil, but recently changed to Castrol Edge in both cars which has improved gas mileage 10-15% in both. Also, the oil leaks from the sump pan gasket has stopped in one car and almost stopped in the other.

You get a lube oil sucker (like a big syringe) with a long thin plastic hose and suck it out via the Fill Hole..a little bit tough because it's so cramped back there, but doable...Then you can pump in the new lube with a hand pump till it flows out the fill hole...All these items can be gotten at the Auto parts store.

I did not level the car, so I suppose I may need to redo it.

Fairly level to be sure on the fill amount....
If you open the fill plug on a level surface and it dribbles out, you're fine....I know you have to be a very thin person to get under there without jacking it up...What I did was, fill it while jacked up and then let it down and let the excess run out..then jacked it back up again and put the plug in.
