keyfob problem
hello folks, my keyfob doesnt work any longer. i thought it was the battery so i changed it myself but still nothing and am forced to put the key into the door everytime to lock and unlock it. any help?
again lately when an driving my kitty, all the lights on the instrument cluster will come on with the temp gauge reading hot but when i turn of the ignition and restart the car everything disappears except the check engine light, however the car continues to run fine, what could be the problem?

Key Fob
Think I can help with key fob Re-programming instructions. Need to know which car you have to help. Instructions that I have are for UK cars but hopefully will work with cars elsewhere. Believe main difference is,
433MHz (for UK) 315Mhz (for US/Canada) I have instructions for most models for example,
X TYPE. XK. XJ6. Think I could find them for S Type as well.
Instrument panel lights anomaly, would suggest get codes read & if appropriate faults cleared. Suggest garage with full Jag diagnostic equipment would be best. General Diagnostic equipment as found in most garages may not give desired result. If you are in UK Jag Specialists are vastly less costly & usually better than Main Dealer.
Main Dealers all have proper Jag Diagnostics & Jag Specialists normally have it. Hopefully others may be able to offer more help. Good luck with it.

I just dealt with the keyfob problem. I bought a new keyfob on ebay for $17 shipped to my doorstep and then programmed it myself.
Programming is as follows. Turn the ignition to 1, then to 2 and back to 1. Do this 5 times and then you should hear a ding. immediately after the chime, pull the key and hold any button on the key fob. You should hear another ding which signifies that the key is programmed.

Had this problem with 2 fobs from XK8 and XJ8,cured it by cleaning the rubber contacts and gold bits onthe pcb.In extremis you can cut the rubber and rearrange it so that a little used contact (headlights on) is used for unlock. This is good while waiting for new rubber etc.

my xtype is having this problem. I have two keys - one that works perfectly the spare that does not. I have replaced the battery, the car starts with key, but nothing else. No other instrumentation problems apart from no light on radio led area. Suspect dimmer switch ore fuse.
thanks Ray

Hi ray,
is the other keyfob not working at all?
Programming is as follows. Thanks to disguayTurn the ignition to 1, then to 2 and back to 1. Do this 5 times and then you should hear a ding. immediately after the chime, pull the key and hold any button on the key fob. You should hear another ding which signifies that the key is programmed.
Ps I love Cyprus, hows the weather?
Regards, Stu I think the lights on radio console are relating to a fuse, see how you go and good luck!

key fob continued
Hi Stuart,
Thanks for your reply. I did this already and receive no tone/chime as described - hence the operation fails. I may now go on to order a replacement fob and retry - it's worth the effort.
A coincidence your surname is exactly the same as my mothers family in Essex - they are decendents of the Marx family who arrived in the Uk in 1852 from Poland.
Best wishes Stuart

Two Keyfobs
Hi my problem is a bit different.
I have two keyfobs and I can program either to work with the car.
I can not get both to work at the same time.
If I program the non paired fob to the car the other won't be paired.
As stated I can get either to work but not both at the same time.
Any help will be appreciated.

Destructions
Programming or pairing a new remote Key fob for the X Type is a very simple job that will cost a substantial amount if it is done by Jaguar. It's annoying but this may need to be done if your Key fob battery has been allowed to go flat, or the car battery has been removed for any length of time.
Follow these steps exactly and you should have no problems, pairing old or replacement Key fobs for your car.
1.)I would recommended that you ensure all key fobs are fitted with new batteries. ( Click here to see battery replacement guide).
2.)Get in the car and close the drivers side door.
3.)Put the key into the ignition and turn to position I.
4.)Wait 5 seconds
5.)Turn the key quickly to position II then back to I four times. (do this only once)
6.)You should hear a single chime.
7.)Remove the Key
8.)For each Key fob in rapid succession. Press any single button on the key fob you wish to pair, you should hear a chime as each Key fob is paired with the security system. After the chime press a button on the next Key fob you wish to pair.
9.)On compleation after all keys have been programed, wait 3 minutes then check the operation of each Key fob by locking/unlocking the vehicle.
Important Note :-All the fobs that you wish to use Must be paired at the same time. Every time you operate the key as in step 5 above the code will be changed, previously programmed fobs will no longer work unless you pair them all at the same time.
Hope this gets you on the straight and narrow
