The centers will make a real difference, too!

The color does look good, surprisingly.
Looking forward to seeing them with the caps.

That does look better than black. It would be interesting to see them with the lip painted the same color as the car.

It would probably look even better.
Except I want the wheels to have a shiny bit to go with the chrome i added to the car (Grills + Mirror covers). Its a sport model so it had no bright work except exhaust tips.

My factory wheels chipped really easy, not from hitting the curb. They have some chips on the face of the wheels too.
Since the stockers looked like crap, I bought these second hand just to have something better looking on the car. They were all i found in a 5x108 lug pattern at the time. Honestly, I'm not really attached to them and will probably get something else when I have extra money, no bills, and nothing else I need to buy hahaha that will never happen!

Car update:

Bought and installed a new battery today.
Gave up on trying to charge the old one.
Its so nice to just be able to turn the key and have the car start.

I still haven't drained the gas.
when I change the fuel filter, I'm going to see what old fuel I can get out that way.

Next weekend I'm going to work a lot on the car since I'm taking an extra day off to drive my Girlfriend to the airport, and then no Girlfriend to hang out with for a couple weeks. So I might as well live in the garage.

Definitely going to wax the car, change the fuel filter, and try to repair or remove the saggy underhood insulation. Depending how the weather is, I might even start the body / paintwork on the front and rear lips.

Then the car will have everything on it's maintenance list completed, except decent tires, current registration and brake fluid change.

There are a lot more 5x108 options out there now, I have 3 sets so far haha. Let me know when you go looking for wheels, I can help you find something.

I went with the Dvinci Attivo's.
Cuz they have add on's.
Can be all black or add chrome or colored spokes.
Not sure if they still sell them tho.

What type of performance upgrade are you getting from the spctr intake ?
What are the mina mufflers?

I don't have either on my car.
If you saw that in someone's mod list, its best to send them a private message or start a new thread.

Replaced the fuel filter today, and pumped out about a 1/4 tank of old gas.
Took 10 minutes.
The only tools required were an 8mm wrench and a beer.
Also helps to have a pan to catch fuel in.
The connectors on either end of the fuel filter are quite clever.
Its like unclipping a wiring harness. No hose clamps needed.

Today I ended up spending hours under my other car sorting out a sloppy feeling shifter that was caused by a nut that came off.
Didn't give me much time to work on the Jaguar, but at least I am able to check one more thing off the Jaguar's to-do list

Been a while since I did an update. It's been too hot lately to do the bodywork for the lips. Bondo / Fiberglass under hot sun = no good.
Looking forward to starting that soon.

One of the things on my to do list was deal with the sagging insulation under my hood.

It had made contact with the intake manifold, and has a scar burned into it.
Looks ugly:

I removed the insulation, the clips that hold it on didnt want to budge. A few of them broke when I pulled them off.

Not sure if the insulation is more for sound, or for heat protection? I don't want the paint to become damaged. So I bought something that I could put on the inside of the hood:

Reflectix Insulation.
It comes in various sizes at your local home improvement store.
Its rated to only 180º direct contact. Hopefully it will hold up.
Just bubble wrap with some foil on it.

If anyone wants one I can make you one / send you the template.

The roll I bought wasnt wide enough, so i had to use two pieces side by side.
I taped them together and then laid the factory insulation on top and traced it.

I used some spray adhesive and silicon goopy stuff to hold it in place.
I put back the clips that didnt break when I removed them from the original one. Its more form fitted than the original. No sag.
After I took the photo below I adjusted it some more, so it fits a little better than what is pictured. Later I'll pick up a few more clips and really tighten it up.

Looks pretty good. A lot better than what was there before. If it doesn't work, I'll just rip it off, and not have any insulation.
Or eventually deal out some cash for a factory replacement.

After that was done I wanted to get the rear lip off, so I can start working on its replacement.

A long time ago, I was being foolish and splashed through a puddle.
It caused damaged to my rear lip. Yeah,.. I still feel dumb for doing it.
In 2010 I bought a replica replacement, and I think its bout time I start work to get it on. This won't happen for a few weeks still, but in the meantime I can take the old damaged one off....

Looks odd without it...

...which is why I took it off; looks ugly = more motivation to make it pretty again.

That is an incredibly good looking X Type. Every little detail on it looks great!

I am so jealous of that rear cracked bumper though. Heck, even a cracked one looks better than my standard non sport one.

Thanks!
Well I have the replica (pic below) to replace the damaged one.
Its really just a mold of the factory piece, so its not the best.
The little door for the tow hook isn't functional, and I have to bondo over the indent of the tow hook door on the replica. Hope I never need it.
At least I have the brackets off the original since the replica has no mounting hardware.

This is my next big project, after the front lip:

I know I havent updated this in a couple weeks.
Haven't given up on my project, just been busy with some other things.

This weekend or (more likely) next I'll move the mounting hardware over to the replica lips, and then prep them for paint.

Glad you pulled it out of storage! Be sure you change your transfer case fluid if you haven't already. If you're missing the transfer case cooling duct, well the only thing I have left from my 2002 X-type is the duct and I happen to work in Oakland

the after market lips, seem like theyre going to need a fair amount of fitment work. also i need another set of hands. too difficult to do this by myself.
i'm thinking of just buying a set of tires, taking to get it smogged, so i can drive it on the street and then having a bodyshop do the lips proper like. but thats going to take some time to save up cash for all that.

the only thing new is, i put the center caps on the wheels. :P

If he doesn't want it, I'll take it off your hands.

*bump*
its been almost two years since i touched the car!
how time flies!

damn, i guess i should change the oil again?
does oil go bad?
its only gone 4 miles in the last couple years. 3 miles today.
i took it out of the garage aired up the tires and drove to the gas station and put 1/2 tank of gas in to mix with the half a tank of 2011 vintage fuel it had in it.

Lets see if that ****s something up.

on monday i'm putting in an order for tires, and new wheels too.
even though the wheels on it havent seen many miles.
i just wanna change the style.
seems like theres more options available now

those wheels in the pics are for sale.
they have black jag center caps on them now.
make an offer.
pick up only in SF bay area.

i also put the car up for sale for $7k in the classifieds here.
no takers, so i guess im keeping it unless you guys want it?

after the wheels and tires come in, and i can drive it to go get smogged and current registration i'll take some pics before i take it to a body shop to get the lips fitted.

All of a sudden i'm sad.
Yes... Please change the oil before driving it again... Use a different vehicle to go buy the oil AND filter.
2011/2016 gas mix? 😥
