Isn't there a bolt on the side of the transmission that should never, ever, be loosened? Something about if you do so, then the reverse bands in the transmission are released and the car will never go backwards again until the transmission is opened up and the band reconnected?

Default Mechanics - Dealers

svldvc: Sorry to hear about your situation with your Jaguar and I hope that it gets resolved soon and without a lot of money being spent. I can relate to your experiences/feelings/dealing with dealers. I took my Jag to a dealer for a error code and they put 200 miles on it - in one afternoon. I am not going to go into details about what else happened during that experience or when I went to a local Jag dealership. What I recommend, if I may, is what I did shortly after purchasing my Jag. I joined a Jag Club. I asked the group, at one of their meetings, for a recommendation on a mechanic. I found a great, great, great master certified mechanic for Jags. I drive 66 miles one way for anything and everything. Oil change, tire rotation (due to those funky lug nuts), cabin filter change, wiper change. He works out of a gas station and he was employed at one of Cleveland's Jag dealerships. Speaking of the lug nuts, he recommended that I purchase the correct socket/wrench so that if I have a flat and am on the road, I have it for the two truck, tire changer person. Good luck with your car.

You shift it, and give it gas, and it doesn't go.
Is my tranny blown? Because it drives forward perfectly fine.
It just wont go in reverse?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Hi, Dave. I have the info at home and will get it to you. I'm in Wooster. Where abouts are you in Akron? Have you joined a Jag club?

The OP's last activity was almost a year ago. If you want to know how things turned out for him you might have to send him an email.

Hi Bill I'm in Green and no haven't joined a club. The Jag has sat for almost 2 years, I had a shop working on it and they really didn't have a clue what they were doing and messed up the reverse band and now I have the car back and it is sitting in the driveway waiting for me to get my jeep engine rebuilt.

Thermo- when I look at the 9 pin on this 2005 I see five on the bottom row and four on the top..which two are 7 and 8? I am assuming it is the middle two on the row of four.

There is indeed a bolt on the side of the transmission case which can easily be mistaken for the drain/ refill bolt, and if it is removed then yes, reverse is lost and sometimes the forward gears are also affected. Any decent transmission shop is aware of this aspect of the JATCO transmission.

If you don't like the dealer, that's fine, but think twice before you tear them up on this board please.

I've had a great relationship with my Jaguar dealer, they have always been honest and have worked hard to keep my business. Its unfortunate you have not had the same experience.
Absolutely Correct, one of the major problems in this industry is we trash one another. I have never heard a doctor or a Lawyer trash another professional in the same profession to a client. Imagine you go to the doctor and he says “That doctor is a thief and a cheat and a hack.” It doesn’t built himself up, it bring everyone down. That is why we as technicians are not respected, we need to be more professional and business like. I unity there is strength.
