Default Radio Problems

My 2002 x-type has sound only on the passenger side. When you access MODE and adjust L/R balance adding to left you get no sound and the volume on the right side decreases.
Is the problem in the head unit or the control unit. I am hoping some of the radio experts will chime in and help sort out.

Could be multiple things. I would first check the wiring connections behind the radio.

If it turns out to be the radio head unit I have a 2003 radio / CD unit that works great but the display is bad. You would need to swap them around. screws and it plugs in.

The loudspeakers are a KNOWN fault for the X-Type.
I have repaired the speakers if the wire to the voice coil becomes 'open-circuit' from the connector terminal.

Check the speaker continuity of each speaker before you condemn the radio head unit!!!!!

When I first got my X-Type the radio didn't work. Found that all speakers were bad. Replaced the speakers and all was good.

Back in the "day" I would use a small 9 volt battery to test speakers and wiring. Put the (+) of the 9 volt battery to the (+) of the speaker wire. Put a wire on the (-) of the small 9 volt battery and use that wire to quickly tap on the (-) wire of the speaker. If all is good you will hear some static coming out of the speaker.

I agree that just a 'flash' of the wire connection should produce a 'pop' or 'static' if the wire is dragged across the connector.
