Help with radio
Ok I have a spare Pioneer DEH-4900IB lying around doing nothing (long story). So I have decided seeing as I can't afford the radio I want to put in my X right now I will drop this one in and at least have my ipod.
So I will be getting the following to make this happen:
http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_Stereo_f...s/FP-14-01.jpg
http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_Stereo_f...es/PC5-100.jpg
http://www.nexxia.co.uk/Car_Stereo_f...s/PC2-81-4.jpg
Is that all I will need, also I would like the steering wheel controls to work, I have found this:
http://www.autotoys.com/x/product.php?productid=8699
Which will work with radio, but it only lists the 02 x-type, would it work with my 04?
Also how much of PIA is this project?

Thanks Dennis, but that really does little for me, I am familiar with the process of installing a stereo, just want to make sure I am not forgetting anything, and also I have no clue how to pull the old radio on these cars.
And you post does nothing to explain if that wheel adapter I showed would work with an 04.

You have to yank hvac/radio unit from the center stack as a unit, then remove the radio portion from the frame. To pull the radio/hvac stack:
Remove ashtray. Turn key to on and then move shifter down to D. Turn key off.
Pop off gearshift surround (wood). It just pries up with your fingers. Start at the front edge.
You will now see two phillips screws at the bottom of the console. Remove the screws.
Pull out the ashtray area - disconnect the 12v cig lighter socket and put assembly aside.
With something soft or a careful scewdriver, gently pry between the hazard flasher button and the seat heater switch (or blank if no heated seats) - then remove the upper wedge area of the console.
You will now see 2 torx screws. Remove.
The entire unit can now be pulled out. NOTE: PLACE A FEW CLEAN RAGS OR TOWELS DOWN OVER THE SHIFTER AREA AND CONSOLE TO AVOID SCRATCHES/TEARS. The edges of the unit are very sharp - so protect your area.
Disconnect negative battery cable of course as a matter of precaution before you start.
I have no idea about the steering wheel controller. If it is compatible with your Pioneer, I don't know why it wouldn't work. Although they did switch from rocker type steering wheel control switches to the round disc type buttons, not sure when that happened, nor if it would matter.
