Has anyone changed spark plugs on a 2004 x type 3.0. any advice?

6294, changing out the plugs on our cars is not as bad as you may think. Now, please note, I didn't say it is a 5 minute job. If you do it yourself, plan on about 2 hours. That is working at a comfortable pace. The issue comes that to access the 3 plugs near the firewall, you have to lift the intake off of the engine. I know what you are thinking, I don't want to open up my engine. You really aren't. The intake on our cars is built in 2 pieces and you are separating the two halves. Now, I will caution you that you should have atleast 6 extra rags handy so that as you separate the two halves, you can place the rags in the openings that you just created to prevent dropping things into the intake. THen all you have to do is to remove the rags before you seal the engine back up. The other thing I will caution you on is that it will be best to unbolt the throttlebody from the intake vice undoing the lines. I say this because 2 of the lines are for the engine coolant and if you break those lines, you should bleed the air out of the coolant system and it takes a lot more time than simply unbolting the throttle body.

As for plugs, go with a basic double platinum plug. This will ensure that you won't be back under the hood doing this same job in 30-50K miles (50-80,000 KM). You also don't need to go super fancy with the plugs as the new motors don't gain all that much (if anything) from the "high tech" plugs. So, the single electrode plugs is all you need.
