Vibration at 60mph to 70mph
Hi,
I'm new to the forum having just recently bought my first Jag (2006 X-Type, 2.0D S). I noticed when test driving it that it had a pretty bad vibration through the steering wheel and seat around 50mph onwards when accelerating and applying torque. The independent dealer I bought it from have been very good, and they sent it to Jaguar and had the DMF & Clutch replaced (at a cost of £1k to them!). However, this didn't resolve the issue and they subsequently put it through their own workshops and ended up replacing the inner and outer CV joints on both sides of the car.
This resolved the vibration on acceleration issue, but I still noticed a lesser (but still annoying) vibration around the 65mph to 70mph mark (irrespective of whether torque is applied or not), and it's a bit like sitting in a massage chair without the enjoyment :-p
The dealer have had a four wheel alignment, tracking and wheel balance done and they are going to check it again today and call me. I'm assuming that track rod ends and buckled rims would show up on a balance and alignment check, so not expecting any problems with these. If I receive a call to say that this is still an issue, can anyone shed any light on what this might be?
Thanks,
Kenny

glen, when they balanced the tires, I bet they didn't check for trueness of the rims/tires. And no, when they balance the tires, most shops do not check for bent rims. As long as it balances, they call it good. I only got a shop to admit that a rim was bent after specifically asking them to run a trueness check (to which their response was "we don't have the equipment to do that"). The rim was bent enough that you could visually see the rim moving back and forth about 1/8" (3mm).
