Keys
Okay, first things first - I'm making a list of "changes" I want to make to my new car and the first thing is keys. My car only came with one key. I've read they key FAQ (you guys are so handy!). Seems programming it is easy. But who can "cut the key" itself?
Is this a dealer thing, or can any locksmith do it? Can a mobile locksmith do it out of his van?

Well it all depends. Best thing you can do is call around. I have to drive to Tulsa, OK to get a key made for mine because no locksmiths around here can cut the keys. The Jag dealer quoted me $150 for the whole thing. I know its not a for sure answer, but that is going to be the best answer you can get unless there is someone who is on this forum that is from the same place that you are.

So I checked with my local Jaguar dealer and this is what they told me...
Pass. I'm not paying $520 for a new key.
I've noticed a new guy has moved in a few doors down from me with trucks that say "pop a lock", seems they are a mobile locksmith. Their website says they cut keys and do programming so I'll talk to them.
I checked with our parts department and the price for one key is $64.26 and $25.00 to cut the key. You would also need a remote which costs $268.80 and then would need to pay the price to have it programmed which costs $160.00. So you are looking at a total cost of $518.06.
