Default X-Type heated windshield

Hi!

Happy New Year to all

Today I noticed that in our X-Type doesn't work the right side of heated windshield. Left side works as it should, but right side doesn't. Just two days ago it worked fine.

I checked fuses, both of them, they were ok. But just in case, I renewed both of them. I found two fuses, in engine bay fusebox, if I remember, they were fuses 14 and 15 and they were 30A. After renewing those fuses, testing the heated windshield, only left side works.

Where the problem can be? Wires / connectors to windshield? Where are those connectors? I remember I have read somewhere about this problem, but I don't remember where there solution at all...

Oh, and just for clearing up, the right side here in Finland is passenger side

juge, what year is your X-Type? There was a TSB (XT501-036) issued for '02-'05s which dealt with water getting into the connectors (mostly passenger side) for the heated windscreen and a replacement connector C2S 44939 could be spliced into the harness to correct it. Might be your cause. Check with the dealer to see if this had been done.

I read a tsb for the heated windsheild.
the connectors are easy to get at after you remove the wiper arms and the black plastic cowl piece. you might be able to get in there like putting a new cabin filter, and test if there is voltage before and after the connector.
If connector is bad, you can just cut it out, and reconnect the wires with solder.

Sorry about that little info about the car.

Car is X-Type, yearmodel 2004, Estate, Executive, and 2.0 diesel.

About that TSB, if it means something about factory-recall-for-repair, I found out some time ago from Jaguar Finland that our car had no TSB open at all (we bought the car second-hand, over a year ago). I googled that TSB number, and it was dated at August 2006, so Jaguar Finland should have known that about a year ago when I made the call...

Well, thanks for that info, I will remove wipers and remove the plastic trim, and check the harness.

It's not a "recall". There are very few of those on the X. I think the '03 taillights may have been the only official recall. A TSB is a techniical service bulletin that gets issued to the dealers after they have a found a sufficient number of similar customer warranty concerns, what the cause most likely is, and how to fix it.

Thanks again about answers.

I found the problem, there was corroded connectors. Opened the faulty side, there was a bit corrode. Cleaned it, and opened the working side, same thing. Cleaned it and now the heated windshield is all working

You should be happy with your mild climate over there, it's a quite little compensation what we can get with these extras here... Sometimes when supercooled water drops are hitting your windshield, this heating system really is life saver.

I seem to have the same problem, so today I did the same procedure, and tomorrow I will find out if it worked
My problem is that I cannot get the plastic cover pressed close to the windows on each side. It seems fine in the middle part, but sticks out a couple of millimeters on each side of the window.

I am hoping you (or somebody else) have a suggestion on how to do this.

TIA
Karl
