X-TYPE Lambda oxygen sensor

X-TYPE Lambda oxygen sensor
Greetings. May be auto electrician fiddle. I don't trust anyone.
I supplied the fitter with brand new Oxygen sensor. .. Short one with black plug I was charged 60 pounds.
He called to say job was done and management light was sorted/reset.
In fact management light was still on. I know there are two sensors.
One can be seen from front end and looking down.
I asked what was wrong and was told I needed the sensor with grey plug.
One fits at back end of cat/converter.
I will need to find a way of getting car on a hoist to look underneath to see if the one I supplied was actually fitted.
Will need to confirm if my new one has been fitted or have I been ripped off@

Gerry1, yes, there are a total of 4 oxygen sensors (assuming you have a V6 engine) on your car. You have 2 that are upstream/in the catalytic converter which are the ones that you can see from the top of the engine. Then you have 2 more that if you follow the exhaust pipes out of the bottom of the catalytic converters, you will come to them.
Before you start crawling under the car, if you open up the hood/bonnet and look down by the front of the engine (just to the right of the air box as I recall), you should see 2 plugs side by side (one grey, one black, or 2 grey). Those will be the plugs for your oxygen sensors. One should be black now and will look new.
If you need more info, let me know. I can help you get things settled out. If you can supply the code that you are getting (should be PXXXX where XXXX is a 4 digit number). With this information, I can tell you down to the sensor more than likely what your issue is.

Thanks for help regarding oxygen sensors. My Jag is 2002 X Type 2.5 petrol V6
It is raining heavily right now, but I looked under bonnet earlier. I see two plugs. one grey and one black. They are situated just below the ledge a little below windscreen. Just a little right of centre. As I looked down into engine I can see one sensor in the exhaust just behind and below the air box. In my workshop manual it mentions just two. One downstream of cat and other in the place I mentioned which I can see.

You are viewing the rear sensor on the upstream side of the cat. There is also one downstream of the cat. The front exhaust has the same sensors one upstream and one downstream. The forward one can be viewed with the air cleaner box and ducts removed. There are 4 total the 2 upstream are 4 wire gray plug and the downstream are black plug 2 wire. As Thermo stated the forward plugs are near the battery box the aft one as you saw are beneath the windscreen on the firewall.
Which one did you have replaced? A bank or B bank. It would help to know what the actual code number the scanner gives you.

The DTC you are showing is for the Upstream O2 sensor on Bank 2. That would make it the sensor on the exhaust manifold close to the radiator. You have to remove the air cleaner assembly to access it. It a 4 wire heated sensor with the grey connector.
Before buying a new sensor make sure that fuse 38 in the engine compartment is in good condition. That is the fuse for the heater circuit for the O2 sensor.

Thanks for help. I had Jag on hoist earlier today and I saw the new sensor had been fitted. Black one near radiator. I will check fuse soon as I am about to set off to east coast of Yorkshire very soon. This forum will save me time and money.
Just to mention my car is not used heavily. Less than 1200 miles each year.
Engine is very smooth and responsive. No oil loss and not too many small problems.

Bank 1 upstream sensor.....firewall side.....pre-catalytic converter
Yes there are 4 sensors, an upstream and downstream sensor for each bank's exhaust manifold and catalytic converter.
Upstream sensors are part number (C2S51801) and have a grey plug on lead.
Downstream sensors are a different part number (C2S38497) and have a black plug on lead.
