This is the kind of car to lease and I hope they come out with competitive rates. If they do, JLR will be in a good place.

Have a look at how Jaguar trickle-feeds out the models and options. Let's take the F-Type as an example.

First it was the convertible only, and only the V6's and the V8S with reduced power.

Then later came the coupe, and the V8 R with more power.

Then later still came the AWD, and the manual transmission.

Still to come is the R-S (or SVR) big-banger version.

They won't give out every version of the XE at the launch, each year or so comes a new model, more power, new options, keeps it fresh...
Yep.. And all us bottom feeders just need to wait a few years and we can pick up a nice V6 S or V8 R RWD with low miles at a sig discount

I'm still confused by the nomenclature; they say there will be a 35t model, which if I'm reading correctly sounds like the XE-S or maybe it's the V6 without some of the suspension upgrades that the S has...they also say it will have AWD optional, this drip feed is painfully slow. Maybe when the F-Pace is revealed in Geneva they'll give out more details.

In a test last week in Autocar an engineer apparently told the tester that putting a V8 in the engine compartment was easier than putting in the 4-cylinder engines. A big hint maybe that a V8-powered version will be introduced at some point..

However, the big sellers will be the smaller engines, so they will be concentrating on these at the moment.

Incidentally the 4-cyl petrol is a Ford engine. There is no Ingenium petrol version yet.

I thought the reviews of the 2.0L were of the Ingenuim, no? The output appears to be near identical to the EcoBoost that they're using at launch. I wonder if the I6 that was mentioned is a modular engine tied to this new Ingenuim...

The petrol Ingenium is not finished yet. My understanding is that this was one of the reasons for delaying release to the US.

The reported 3.0L i6 Turbo will also an Ingenium.

It all seems a bit messy to me, in a few years time there will have been all sorts of different engines in XE's...

2.0L Ingenium Diesel
2.0L Ecoboost Petrol
2.0L Ingenium Petrol
3.0L AJ126 S/C V6
3.0L Ingenium i6T
V8's of some description

OK other makes like BMW have lots of different engines, but still...

The V6 seems to be a makeshift job in the grand scheme of things, and I can see why they're offering the EcoBoost at launch as they don't want to miss out on that sector, but yeah it does look a bit messy. I am really curious about this I6, though.

Hi,
What do you guys think, will there be a XE V6 with awd AND manual transmission to compete with the BMW 328/335xi?
With the F-Type you're forced to choose...

The Ford 2.0L Ecoboost engine is a very capable little powerplant. It's proven itself very worthy over the last couple of years. The Ingenium is an unknown at this point.

I'm doubtful on the manual bit, but with this being a higher volume car I guess it's a possibility.

I hope the exhaust note really is that vocal, it's pretty muted on my XF.

I must say at first I didn't like the styling. Sort of plane jane and looks too much like the XF and XJ front but it is definitely growing on me (I think Jaguar advertising actually works....all those subliminal messages adding up ha ha ha)

Now, I wonder being that they are supposed to be an entry level Jaguar will we see alot of these on the roads next year? The most common Jaguars around my way is early 2000 XJ's, X-Types and S-Types. There is one bloke somewhere in my 'hood that has an XF but it is quite a rare spotting!

Paulyling, you want to see Jags out the ying yang, come to DC, USA. You will see more of them that you care to admit to. Granted, still not as common a sight as your BMWs and MBs. But, I kinda like it that way. You drive by, people check you out, unlike they do in BMW's and MB's.

The car definitely continues to grow on me. I like it

This website is really cool to customize your own:

Jaguar Australia - The Art of Performance

The one thing that bugs me, and maybe it is a tad superficial, but the continual references to it being an "entry level" car. Are people going to look at somebody drive it and think "try hard" can't afford a "real" Jaguar?

Maybe I am way off the chart but it makes me think Ferrari Mondial in the 80's. Anybody else have similar thoughts?

paulyling, look at the reputation the X-Type has. That was essentially attempt 1 at this sort of thing for Jaguar. I will admit that this time they are putting a bit more heart into it to hopefully get past the initial "baby jaguar" phase. But, at the same time, it isn't anything different than what BMW is doing with the 1 series or MB with their lower end cars. Gotta get people to look at the car first before they write it off. I think the XE will do just that.
